Beer From Grains
I did my first batch the other day. This is how it went:
1. Mashed 6 pounds of cracked pale grains and half pound cracked crystal grains in 2.5 gallons water at 65C for 1 hour.
2. Drained liquor and heated a further 5 gallons of water to 79C.
3. Sparged grains with a fine mist of the hot water. Total wort collected was 6 gallons.
4. Supplemented wort with 3 ounces of Golding hops and 1/2 pound demerera and 1/2 pound golden yellow sugar. Then I boiled the wort down to 5 gallons capacity.
5. Drained the wort from the hops and fast cooled it using a copper piping water heat transfer system. Then I pitched the yeast and put a lid over the fermentation vessel.
Just posting to see if others have tried this. Please feel free to post any experiences you have had with this good or bad.
