doctor not allowed to prescribe anything but propranol?
swim has just been to the doctors about her terrible panic attacks.this has been a ongoing thing for years.swim has been taking propranol for the last 6 months and there not working in the slightest.
she explained this to the doctor but was told that they had nothing else to prescribe but propranol.swim was looking for valium.is it true that doctors are only allowed to prescribe propranol now becuse swim suspects the doctor was bullshitting. |

Re: doctor not allowed to prescribe anything but propranol?
askin for valium for pain, might have thrown up a red flag, just ask for a mild analgesic , then if the doctor tells of his hands being tied, then go over his head, to the insurance co. or med board and file a complaint. that will get things rolling.

Re: doctor not allowed to prescribe anything but propranol?
If that is all that he says he prescribe then he is not a real doctor. Seems like he is pullin a quick one on SWIY. SWIM agrees that propranolol is very ineffective, which is why swim is on clonazepam. It's SWIYs life, get what SWIY needs, and if that happens to be diazepam then so be it. Don't let em push SWIY around like that.

Re: doctor not allowed to prescribe anything but propranol?
Adrenergic Beta-Blockers (such as propanolol) are used for anxiolytic effects, however since this is not working for you, you NEED to make this clear.
Your Dr. is bullshitting you, because he/she is afraid of your abuse of the GABAergic drugs also used to combat your condition. You need to tell him: "The propanolol is not helping my anxiety, I know it's ABSOLUTE bullshit that you cannot prescribe anything else.. because an MD is a MD... so you're either going to help me, or I'll go to another doctor and disgrace your name within our community to such an extent you'll never see a patient again, if it kills me, Dr. so-and-so." He's attempting to prevent abuse, but by doing so, he's hurting you... and you don't pay for that, do you? I'm very serious though.. you better scream your head off at your next appointment! |

Re: doctor not allowed to prescribe anything but propranol?
Your Doctor can prescribe with he/she wants swim has GAD (general anxiety disorder) And been on propranolol and venlafaxine and is now on diazepam.
It all depends on your Doctor (some more easy then others) and on swiy (how he/she acts and what swiy wants to try and whats swiy history, is there a abuse issues now or in the past ? How old is swiy ? And yes most Doctors are willing to try different meds but no benzo's.. Due to there addictiveness. And if they do then usualy only for a maximum for two weeks... Swim lucky repeat prescription for diazepam and zopiclone. He was already told about the local Doctor..... LOL |

Re: doctor not allowed to prescribe anything but propranol?
All doctors in the UK are licensed to prescribe any controlled drug to any patient except diamorphine, dipipanone or cocaine to a dependent user. Therefore your doc saying he can only offer propranolol is absolute BS as mentioned by others on this thread. Your age (21) may have something to do with his reluctance to offer benzos though, if you were 61 or 71 it would be no problem.
I am assuming this is an NHS doc, could you pay for private treatment? Private docs arent as pill-happy as they once were due to police investigations and publicity but if you tell them beta-blockers had no effect on your anxiety they are 90% likely to offer a benzo- often something like alprazolam or lorazepam (more potent than valium so lower doses.) If not just find another surgery and explain your problem to them. Have you shown any signs of your other recreational drug use before that the doctor would pick up on? If so he is almost bound not to prescribe downers. |
