Fentanyl... Quick ?

I apologize for the misplacement of this question, and I have used the seach engine, but I can't find an answer. How dangerous would it be for someone to apply a 50mcg fentanyl patch for recreational use and they are only mildy opiate tolerant (20-30mg of hydrocodone a day)?

Re: Fentanyl... Quick ?

Fent patches take up to 12 hours to reach full affect so SWIM would not advise putting it on late at night as SWIY may not notice it getting too strong if sleeping. If it's not the gel type then SWIM would suggest cutting it in half and placing one of the halves under the top lip after putting multiple teeth marks along the patch. Try not to swallow any saliva for at least 20 minutes. Fent is very strong and will up your tolerance very quickly if abused regularly, SWIM can't even get high off heroin any more due to wearing and chewing patches. 50mcgs may be very strong for SWIY so don't do it alone.

Re: Fentanyl... Quick ?

Be very, very careful with fentanyl. This stuff is measured in MICROgrams. Also, sometimes people OD with fentanyl even when they are using the drug as prescribed because they forget to read the small print. For instance, added heat increases the amount of fentanyl that is released by the patch, and there have been sad news stories about people who go to sleep with their heating pad and never wake up because the fentanyl floods their systems. Do as much research as possible if SWIY is going to try fentanyl. Go to Erowid or something. SWIM has never used fentanyl, but he knows about people abusing them (smoking the gel inside the patches, freezing the gel inside the patches to make opiate ices, etc.). But again, SWIY should be very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very careful

Re: Fentanyl... Quick ?

50ug/hr of fentanyl is roughly equivalent to 180mg/24hr (not 180mg single dose) of morphine sulfate. A dose of 50ug/hr is a medium transdermal dose. Common transdermal doses are 25ug/hr, 50ug/hr, and 100ug/hr. Note that the dose is measured in ug/hr and not in single dose increments. Doses for 'breakthrough' pain management can go as high as 800ug/single dose (usually administered sublingually). As already stated in the previous posts, USE CAUTION. Especially if one has no ONGOING tolerance to an opiate or synthetic. Moist heat will aid in a more rapid delivery of the active. Never alter the patch, wear the patch while sleeping, or take any additional drugs with fentanyl. Hopefully these facts will bring SWIY a little closer to the answer they're looking for.

Re: Fentanyl... Quick ?

SWIM would suggest waiting a short while to build up a tolerance if swiy want to try the fent experience, as the next step from hydro is usually OC's, not an opioid 50 times stronger than pure heroin. If SWIY are determined to do it, DO NOT cut up a Durogesic gel reservoir patch, SWIY will get all the fentanyl at once which is fatal in a few MINUTES without an instant narcan injection. If SWIY have a matrifen patch it may be better, but this is one mighty dangerous substance if not used under medical supervision. Also listen to the advice of previous posters- do NOT expose the patch to heat, do NOT take other drugs with it- especially more narcotics- and put it on in the morning so you will not sleep through a sudden overdose peak.
