Why is mixing alcohol and codeine bad?

Swim has obviously heard about the dangers of mixing alcohol and codeine, and is quite curious as to why and/or how it is harmful or dangerous. Swim hasn't been able find any info on the net about it except warnings without explanations, he has also heard from a (rather unreliable) friend who mixes codeine with alcohol that it increases conversion rate to morphine. Could swiy please explain to swim how codeine and alcohol interact with each other or recommend a site that could explain it?
