Combinations - alcohol after codeine,how long?

swims wondering, if swim takes a dose of 230mg of codeine toorrow at noonish. how long will it be (normally) till enough of it has gone through swims body to be safe to drink alcohol. for instance would haveing 2 beers, 9 hours afters ingesting be bad? or will it be ok but not really healthly on the liver? or really stupid and fatal? or should you wait like 24 hours before taking any alcohol?

Fatal? No most likely not. SWIY should make that judgment according to how SWIY feels at the time. If they're still feeling the effects of the codeine, it's likely too soon. If it's been awhile, it's probably okay unless SWIY has some liver disfunction. SWIM would think 9 hours should be sufficient if one's only consuming two beers...but go by how SWIY is feeling. Take into consideration if SWIY is consuming pure or CWE'd codeine or they're consuming a compound containing other substances metabolized hepatically as well.

Smart of SWIY not to combine these two simultaneously. Their liver will be appreciative SWIM is sure, LOL

ty for reply, swim was askin because if his buddys ask him to drink he can least hve a brew cus swim doesnt want everyone knowing swim was fucked of codien that day. but ya it all depends how swim feels. swim was also wondering , instead of alcohol, what would a dose of 150 mg or 200 mg of codeine do after the initial dose 9 hours later. swim thinks it should be just enough to bring back his high without takeing to much over those 24 hours.

Well, it sorta depends?
What sort of tolerance do they have for opiates?
What's a normally-decent dose for them?
Are they male/female?
What is their approx weight?
What is the approx age range and general health?
What sort of metabolic rate/activity level do they have?
Are they on any other substances/medications that are metabolized in whole or in part by the liver?
Do they have normal liver function? Or at least no known dysfunction?
Will they be taking pure codeine or employing the cold water extraction method or will they be consuming their codeine combined with another substance like Acetaminophen or Aspirin?


In SWIM's practical experience, SWIM would need an entire full dose after 9-hours to get her back to baseline "opiated" state. SWIM was between 20-25, had a fast metabolism, consumed zero alcohol, and weighed about 115 pounds at 5'4" SWIM also had a pretty significant opiate tolerance at the time.

pinksox, is on the right path. In general if it is an one off thing not nearly as bad as a regular thing or a binge. Codeine has a half life of roughly 2.5-3 hrs in a healthy person with no problems according to wiki and I am too lazy to go unpack my books and look. So lets assume you have no issues and consume 230mg, in 3 hours it would be as if you took 115mg, at 6 hours after that as if you took 57.5mg and at 9 hours 28.75mg. If you added 200mg at the 9 hours mark you would roughly be at your starting dose. Keep in mind half life is more complicated then just that and actually based on your serum (blood) levels not dosage but close enough. So theorectically you would be fine consuming those doses of pure codeine also assuming you aren't consuming any other poisons/ chemicals like acetaminophen, alcohol, regular medications etc and are healthy, not a kid. Add in those to the mix and you are taxing your liver. If this a once in a blue moon sort of thing then your liver will most likely recover from any harm done, do this a too many times or add the wrong chemical and you will hurt your liver. Please keep in mind I am not a doctor or your medical proffesional. I don't know your chart nor can I see you, any of these things might not be true i.e. you could have a liver problem neither of us know about or be unaware that you are consuming some sort of toxin in your enviroment, etc. So no one can truly say "X" is safe but it seems reasonable. SWIM has found that drinking 1-2 glasses of wine 7ish hours after dosing on CWE codeine brings the high right back and only sometimes makes him feel very slightly nauseous. But then he's never taken as much as 230mg (more like 100mg).

swim drank about 1 and a half beers about 9-10 hours after comsumption. it did kinda increase swims buzz because swim was also smokeing weed. but swim recommends and highy advises no1 drinks even as late as swim did. swim did feel liek he was getting messed up easier but i doubt it was good on swims liver at the time. swims "comedown" the nexy day was far worse then expected though.

If you took pure codeine then there wouldn't be much added strain on your liver - it's the paracetamol/acetaminophen present in a CWE mixture that would increase the liver damage caused by the alcohol.

Click - this abstract relates to kidney toxicity, as effects on the liver are far more complicated, but should give you reason why combining alcohol and paracetamol should be avoided.

the half life of codeine is approx 5 hrs. That's my rule of thumb, but I usually re dose every four. I am looking forward to CWE method to get all that liver damaging crap out. That's just plain smart. Personally I am looking forward to the day of not taking anything but pain is a great motivator. I also take N'Acetyl L-Cysteine to protect my liver.aka as "NAC" it's about 20 bucks but well worth it. Signs of liver troubles are jaundist, yellow etc. A crazy combo vitamnis and minerals and proteins for damge control. ah well..People are going to do what people are going to do.me too but I have been able to do this for 41 years on a daily basis simply through damage control and plain DUMB luck. nice info former, if swims ever got problems or getting his habit outa control swim wil l try that stuff out. swim just takes mens one a day. that enough multivitamins for him
