Hey all
I was at a coffee a few days ago and ordered a "Russian Rocket"- the ingredients on the menu were "a slice of lemon, sugar, ground coffee and vodka". To my surprise, it didn't show up as a classic cocktail, but instead the wide lemon slice was topped with the sugar and ground coffee, and the vodka was served as a separate shot; I just bit on the lemon and drank the Vodka. Anyone ever stumbled upon something like this? |

Re: "Russian Rocket" - Ever heard about it?
Nope, can't say I have.
So I guess you're supposed to use the vodka to wash the coffee grounds down? How much are we talking about? A heaping teaspoon of grounds eaten straight is quite a kick in the pants! You should ask the barista where the recipe is from? How was it? Is it worth doing? |

Doesn't sound great, you'd think booze mixed into coffee or seperate drinks of each would be better..or premixed that has caffeine. Euch, if there are two things in the world to make you feel sick before drinking, they'd be lemon and ground coffee.

It sounds like you could have poured the vodka over the lemon/coffee/sugar confection so it strained through into another glass. Otherwise I'm at a loss as to why they were served separately - you surely couldn't be expected to munch on a lemon/coffee biscuit and wash it down with vodka.

Mm, my thoughts exactly, it sounds like a really good idea for an advertising picture where only the presentation counts, but not a really good idea for something to actually serve to people with tastebuds. |

Yes, I've heard about it (may be because my home is relatively close to Russia - just around 1,500 km
![]() It's usually served on a spoon. You put lime juice, vodka and coffee on the spoon and "drink". It's supposed to give you a kick - stimulate you. I've never tried it personally, but from what I've heard it really works. The point is to drink it all at once. |

My euro chick says that you drink first and chase eating the lemon/sugar/coffee.... and apparently it will kick your ass. this must be more popular then you're imagining... will have to try......
