Re: My cat's uncle was schizophrenic

LSD in fact, mirror the symptoms and chemical activity found in the brains of schizophrenics. according to a study published in February ‘08.

The psychedelic influences the same serotonin receptors that are imbalanced in schizophrenics, and both the drug and the disease result in delusions and hallucinations. You'll find it.

Re: My cat's uncle was schizophrenic

Swim knows someone who is a true psycho......met him through a old girlfriend,he was one of her brothers....now this guy did well thru school, grades and all...played football (jock a big strong guy)...always had a good looking girlfriend...fast foward....he went to collage and while he was there,he did a hit of either strong acid or bad acid, who knows.......and that trip induced full blow schizophrenia.
Mind you that gene ran in his family(his father went schizo).....now this guy only did it once, and he is totally disfunctional to this day...has his mom help take care of him....and hes in his 50s.......will it happen to you ? who knows but if that disorder runs in your family..I would think twice........bige never got into psyicadelics because his mom had a bad trip...back in the 70s...but thats another story.

Re: My cat's uncle was schizophrenic

Last thanks giving SWIM was told almost the exact same story but it was regarding PCP(probly embalming fluid not PCP). The kid get up everyday, gets ready eats breakfast, goes back upstairs, comes down and has forgotten about eating breakfast and talks to his mom like he just woke up again. Imagine living that way for a few weeks let alone a lifetime! SWIM really believes the psychedelic experience is different than the schizophrenic state and that the self-induced trip, that only last for a few hours(for most compounds), is the best way to change your mental state reliably without inducing psychosis by taking mind to set and setting during the voyage.

Re: My cat's uncle was schizophrenic

Swim wasn't saying that a trip is the has same as the same signs & symptoms of permanent schizophrenia....at least swim was trying not to say that and apologies if he came across the wrong way(or swim misinterpreted it...either way no big deal....
Swim thought that the government either was using LSD as a treatment for or as a agent to induce schizophrenia....swim could be wrong.
The girls brother told me he only took it once and believes that the LSD was the catalyst that kicked in the schizophenia............
Swims family member had a bad trip because she was given the drug in a drink without her knowlage.........not good for one's first trip swim guesses. But these were back in the days when barrooms would have a true happy hour at least in around this part of the woods....where the bar would set up a table with drinks all made up already and you would pay your 4 bucks (1972 prices mind you) ...then you could drink as many drinks as you wanted or could within that hour time period.Well I guess some or all had LSD in them. And swims family member got at least one drink with a hit in it (maybe more, who can say)....sad but true....
Swim also lost a couple of friends that had some problem with lsd....a psychotic break or something? But one of his friends....we used to call him "Loony" as a nickname,he lost all understanding of reality on a permanent basis.......
Keep in mind however that at that time (swim was in High-School about 15 or 16 years old)the people in his crowd were taking LSD everyday although they claimed that they only "got off" every other day.
One good thing about going out with that girl at the time, was that her brother was very protective of his little sister....and most people were afraid of him because he was a certified psycho,a big guy and made it clear he would dispatch anyone that harmed her......luckily he liked swim, and was always very nice to him...........
All drugs pose their own dangers and it is best to know possible risks before experimenting with them(experiment very scientifically mind you)......So thumbs up to the op for posing the question ,smart thing to do.....dosen't hurt to ask.

Re: My cat's uncle was schizophrenic

the post was just because your story reminded SWIM of a similar one that shows what abusing, not using, drugs can do. or in some cases not thinking about underlying mental conditions( ie family history of schizophrenia), can catapult one into early psychosis that would have come later in life despite drug use but was manifested earlier than it otherwise would have with the drug use.

Re: My cat's uncle was schizophrenic

this is sorta a personal issue for swim. sims family is plagued with mental illness including OCD, severe anxiety, bipolar disorders, atypical psycosis, major depresseion and debilitiatin paranoid schizophrenia. when swims family found him to be a daily smoker (cannabis) at 14 all the substance abuse speacilaists warned him that his possibility of becoming schizophrenic was skyrocketing. swim was also experimenting with mushrooms and lsd. he has done both drugs numerous times. swim is older now (18) and still exhibits no symptoms of schizophrenia. swim has read all of the research on these issues but thinks the connection between psychedelics, cannabis, and schizophrenia is causal at best. and yes it is immposbile to tell if psycosis manifested by drug use would not have presented itself later on. swim doesnt really think drugs can "trigger" schizophrenia or somehow turn the gene on if it would not come out on its own otherwise.

thank swiy for sharing this story. I was under the impression that if you had any history of family mental disease, then lsd was gonna throw you in mental disease too. Glad to know it's not so, and wasn't so for you!

Re: My cat's uncle was schizophrenic

I see absolutely nothing in common with LSD tripping and Schizophrenia. The reason I say this is because I knew a very Schizo lady...a friend of the family. She was whacked out of her skull. One day she might think aliens were coming to get her. The next, she might be fine, with no recollection of her previous paranoia. Very strange and sick lady. I believe I've heard that LSD can "equalize" a Schizophrenic. Not sure if that's true, though.
I will say that I don't think LSD is very good for people with high anxiety. I have panic attacks these days. I don't know if it's at all related to the thousands of acid trips SWIM took, but I have to wonder. I also wonder if it doesn't have something to do with my lower spine having so many problems in the last 15 or so years.
