New doctor, contextual tips to get the Goods
As previously noted SWIM suffers from extremely terrible migraines!
He recently moved to Calgary and have been getting pretty much what he wants from 2 doctors. One of those prescribed him: 30 Tablets of D-Amphetamines Spansules 10mg (Will probably switch to 10mg BID/TID) 30 Tablets of Clonazepam 1mg (Might upgrade too :P) Now here's is the challenge SWIM wants to discuss about... SWIM is a legitimate migrainer (pain scale from 7-10) and found a family doctor recently. Here's how it went. 1st appointment: Just the general first meeting with any new family doctor, family history, allergies... SWIM started talking about his migraines and how painful and prevents SWIM from doing daily activities. He was honest about the pain but exaggerated on the number of migraines he gets per week. SWIM's doctor prescribed Toradol. SWIM proceeded to tell him that he had a shot of it in the ER along with Maxeram. SWIM asked something to reduce the pain so he can get to sleep. Doctor scripted 20 Tablets of Tylenol #3. SWIM thanked the doctor, booked a follow-up appointement 2 weeks later. SWIM felt optimistic. 2nd appointment: It was today. SWIM really played his game well he thinks. SWIM went straight to the point saying he was here because after 7 years of suffering he's had enough! He brought a list of almost all preventatives medications used to diminish the number and intensity of the migraines, all the triptans and a bunch of anti-depressant... SWIM also made up a Migraine Diary of April (Date, Pain level, duration and medication used) and gave it to him. SWIM introduced the fact he tried pretty much every medications for migraines except for the Beta-blockers, because he has a history of asthma, and the "fucking" painkillers. SWIM preceeded to explain that he had been prescribed for Tramadol 50mg and had difficulty breathing, his girlfriend said it was "respiratory depression". SWIM said he was taking percocets before and they helped but made him feel dizzy, which he "didn't" like. He told the Doctor they always started him on Toradol/Maxeram. And they would then proceed to give him 1 or 2 shots of Morphine. SWIM asked the doctor if he could prescribe something along those line "because the Morphine just killed the pain so fast and I don't get any secondary effects". SWIM then added "SWIM was so surprised he didn't get any undesirable effects the first time". "The 3 times were the same even if they gave me a double dose" The doctor asked SWIM if he had tried Demerol (meperidine/petithine). SWIM said "no" and he left with: 30 Tablets of Demerol 50mg A referral to a pain specialist And he'll receive a CT scan and/or MRI just in case... SWIM was pretty happy with his visit. Though he would like to get something more abusable...Maybe a "well after trying the Demerol, SWIM realizes there is a lot worst than percocet". SWIM would ask him if he can make him a script for something like morphine or percocets that lasts longer because it only lasts 2-3hrs and my migraines are a minimum 6hrs... Or maybe something else completely, but what? Yeah Sorry SWIM was nodding drifted to sleep during his post...Thanks, SunnyHours. Last edited by SunnyHours; 16-04-2009 at 15:10. |
