Re: Nitrous at Dentist's

Also, how could I make it look like I'm not trying to "hit" the nitrous?

Re: Nitrous at Dentist's

Nothing wrong with getting the most from the nitrous at the dentist's, LOL. That's the entire purpose of it. They "should" get one to a "comfortable" level before starting any work. Of course, comfortable is "subjective," and requires the patient to tell the staff where they're "at." They can turn it up if "more" is needed or requested. Too much and SWIY will nod off/pass out/start snoring..in which case they'll remind one to take a few deep breaths to wake one up a bit..or the may turn it down a line.

SWIM used to have/still have an Endo whose nitrous will get her happily corked...to the point of temporary alternate reality even. She one went right from the Endo's to the Oral Surgeons...the RN walked her across the parking lot. The Oral hooked up his Nitro and SWIM was stone cold sober in 60 seconds flat....despite that little liar saying, "its turned up all it'll go!" When she knows 4-4 1/2 lines got her good at the other place.

SWIM thinks the bastard had it hooked to O2 only and was holding out(or his staff was). She got a new Oral Surgeon after that. If SWIM HAS to have their mouth banged about it and cut open..they're at least feeling good out of it. No negotiations.

Haha, very nice.

I was really asking if there was a way to get the dissociative aspects of it. I know that they usually mix it with oxygen, so I was wondering if there was a way to still get the "high" from it. Like holding breath for x seconds, inhaling/exhaling a number of times, holding it in longer. I dunno.

Re: Nitrous at Dentist's

Slow deep breathe and hold it a few second to give the nitrous time to off load. Rinse and repeat.

As one gets increasingly corked off the nitrous, they'll have to remind themselves to take deeper breaths..because they tend to naturally become more shallow as one gets higher.

Nice trick is to have a dentist that will bump one up enough they can merely take moderate breaths and still get looped. That's where that "subjective" part comes into play. They only know how it's effecting one to the point the patient tells them its having on them. SWIM "always" says they need more than the starting dose. Usually a few times:P A decent dentist--who realizes that some people have extreme anxiety-dentist issue aren't going to mind sending their patient for a loop and they realize that they'll still be cold sober within a good ten minutes(tops) after breathing pure O2 and chances are they aren't gonna become nitrous "junkies" from the trip either, LOL.

Otherwise, dentists would be making tons more money and people would have much, much cleaner teeth:P

SWIM has definitely had a few pleasantly dissociative adventures from nitrous at her Endos.

That same prick Oral Surgeon ended up sedating/knocking SWIM out with Ketamine(without her consent). He'd said he'd be using Versed. SWIM woke quite agitated and moderately aggressive and with a raging headache...which is sooo not her nature and asked him outright, "WTF did you give me?" The nurse said "Ketamine" before he could open his mouth. Giving a patient straight Ketamine for anethesia is "barnyard medicine." Between that and his "nitrous failure" SWIM was highly pissed at his integrity...and pretty agitated from the Ket...He got an earful and then some...and then SWIM found a new Oral Surgeon recommended by her Endo(who is awesome).

Re: Nitrous at Dentist's

Nothing if one is using it recreationally and with their own knowledge.

To use Ketamine as a sole anesthetic agent in a medical procedure isn't great medicine...it IS in fact referred to as "practicing barnyard medicine" as that's the agent vets most often use to knock large farm animals off their feet.

As a pure dissociative, a lot of human patients have really bad reactions to it...not to mention allergies even. There's many more safer, kinder anesthetics for human use...and while Ket may occasionally be employed as a co-agent...it generally isn't done without patient consent. And telling a patient you're giving them "X' and billing for more expensive "X" while you're really giving them "Y" and billing for "X" is bad ju-ju too.

SWIM had a raging headache for a good two-days after her Ket experience and she wasn't right mentally/mindframe/attitude-wise for a good two or three days post-op. She'll never touch Ketamine again unless it's to knock her demon-kitty out prior to bathing it twice yearly.

Re: Nitrous at Dentist's

SWIM's first "drug experience" was with dentist nitrous lol. She loved it as a child

Got it every time she went to the dentist, whether it was for a filling or whatever. Her bad gag reflex makes it a necessity. SWIM remembers wishing she had some of her own to fall asleep to at night as a child.

Oh, that's bad.
Did you not at least get thrown into a K-hole or something?

....or was it all bad?

Cuz it's a barn cat and gets gross and stinky. So, it gets a mandatory two baths a year. One to wash of the winter stink, give spring shots/rabies vaccine, and put to on flea meds and once in the fall for the same. Otherwise, it's pretty feral...not one I count toward our housepets. But it showed up a few years ago out of nowhere so SWIM feels obliged to ensure it gets at least a modicum of grooming and veterinary care. Trouble is, one can't get near the thing without having mass lacerations inflicted by its claws, LOL. So, into the Havahard it goes, when it gets a nice meal and then poked in the morning with a long needle and a shot of Ket in the ass:P

SWIM doesn't recall a thing after being given the shot until waking up feeling very hostile and aggressive and with a pounding headache...all of which felt like 100% turnabout from the general groggy but pleasant waking one gets when coming out of Versed(which was SWIM's norm for a sedative anesthetic and which was expected that time as well).

SWIM's not the suing type or she might of considered it. At the time, she figured depriving him or her repeat business and spreading her tale far and wide to her friends(and depriving him of their business as well) was enough she supposes.

Re: Nitrous at Dentist's

Swim was given something, but neglected to ask what it was at the dentist's. It was IV and then a breathing mask. The dentist drilled for the wisdom teeth and swim heard it, thought swim would be knocked out. There was a slight sensation and the uncomfortable feeling of being aware and hearing someone drilling on your teeth. They asked if swim wanted the teeth but swim declined. It's weird because it seemed to be like 10 minutes. But swim would take it again because it was just interesting.
