You have probably seen on TV the east indian cultures that have big cerimonies where they pierce themselve EXTENSIVELY and dance around, now this may seem bizarre, crazy or stupid but there is a point, all the inflictions release endorphins througout your body which make you feel better, ahppier they are basically a pain supressant so its gets them wuite high and the dances puts them into this deep deep trance for quite awhile. This can also explain why people cut themselves and say that it makes them feel good, thoug it may because it feels like they are being punsihed etc, which could ba al arger part than I am thinking but thats beside the point, it also releases endorphins throughout the body giving them a high.
This is just some info I just thought I would share with you all, to help understand other cultures and practices thart occur more and more in youths and maybe this will help relieve some of the sigma or bewildermend. |

I've had friends (and ex-girlfriends) that said cutting themselves
would make them feel better. I never understood this. I still doubt it for the most part. |

Thats kinda like saying I doubt smoking a plant could make you feel good, there is real evidence to show that it does and why it does

however there is a very definite difference between smoking a plant and slashing yourself, a very self-destructive difference and i'm rather sure you guys know i'm not talking about the plant <_<

I really don't understand these depressed kids who cut they're wrists and stuff. It's like, many aren't even trying to kill themselves, they are just looking for attention through extreme and unusual practices.
I would think many cultures embrace such acts as peircing and self inflicted injuries for different reasons. Some cultures do these things for religous reasons. Some cultures, like many african tribes people, practice these as rights of passage for young men. Today's American culture, and others I would suspect, embrace body peircing and tattoes as a form of self expression... And they just look damn cool! I really can't believe, however, that people cut themselves because it makes them feel good. I'm not saying it's not true, I just need some more proof. I have never injured myself and said "woa... I think I wanna do this again!" It would be strange for nature to craft the human body to enjoy it's own destruction. |
