SWIM has used up 4 bottles of vanilla extract, an entire jumbo bottle of Listerine, and there is NO more alcohol whatsoever in his house....except for many small bottles of hand sanitizer....SWIM has waited and searched for more alcohol around his house (he is on house arrest and cannot leave) but there is nothing else...SWIM's parents love hand sanitizer though and if it was safe to drink SWIM would be drunk all day. SWIM now has a bottle of hand sanitizer in his hand and is about 5 minutes away from drinking it. If its poisonous... please let SWIM know.

yea swiy it is dangerous, probably best not to do it. it probably won't kill swiy, but swim can't imagine trying to get it down, let alone the risk to his health.

SWIM just drank about 4 big squirts from hand sanitizer, he will tell me the effects so i can post them here...the taste was so awful i gagged every time.

Gezz...you really should get some medical advice. House arrest or no, you're still entitled to medical care, or at least get valium or something to take the edge off of "drying out"...

(Of course I'm assuming SWIY was referring to withdrawals when he said "desperate," not "SWIM is so desperately bored, he's gonna drink hand sanititzer!")

If it's the former, saying you've been drinking hand sanitizer to ward off WD will get you treatment 100% of time.

If it's the latter...might I suggest porn?

Street drinkers and homeless people are stealing hand sanitising gel from hospital wards.

The battle against hospital superbugs has encountered an unexpected enemy - street drinkers and homeless people are stealing the 70%-proof alcohol hand sanitiser from hospital wards in London to make potentially lethal cocktails.

The gel, which retails at over £10 a litre, is mixed with orange juice, Lucozade or cola to create a new version of the street drinkers' favourite "red biddy" - meths and red wine.

Homerton hospital, east London, reports losing three or four bottles a day. It has installed CCTV and called in the police. A spokesman says: "We want to stop these thefts before they have an effect on infection control - visitors can't wash their hands on entering some wards."

Bart's and the London hospital trust is testing lockable gel dispensers. University College London, Guy's and St Thomas', and St George's hospitals also report thefts.

Midori Hol, from the Passage homeless centre in central London, believes the recent deaths of two street alcoholics were gel-drinking related. "It can cause convulsions, coma and serious damage to organs - but of course people who resort to this are already seriously unwell as a result of alcohol."

Yes, sir. Swiy definitely do not want to do anything of the sort. Surely swiy can think of some complicated scheme by which he can sneak in some booze. Maybe get some sugar and yeast and ferment swiy's own shit. Construct a simple still. The means are in swiy's hands. You can safely obtain ethanol.

Regardless, here is a bit more reason for not drinking the hand sanitizer.

The bottle says that it contains ethyl alcohol (ethanol). Howevered, it is denatured. Info:

Denatured alcohol is ethanol which has been rendered toxic or otherwise undrinkable, and in some cases dyed...Traditionally, the main additive was 10% methanol, which gave rise to methylated spirit. There are diverse industrial uses for ethanol, and therefore literally hundreds of recipes for denaturing ethanol. Typical additives are methanol, isopropyl alcohol, acetone, methyl ethyl ketone, methyl isobutyl ketone, denatonium,[1] and even (uncommonly) aviation gasoline.

Not good stuff for people who wish to live. Methanol?

Methanol is extremely toxic. If ingested, as little as 10ml can cause permanent blindness by destruction of the optic nerve.[3] The usual fatal dose is 100–125 ml (4 fl oz). Because of its similarities to ethanol (the alcohol in beverages), it is difficult to differentiate between the two (such is the case with denatured alcohol).

They really should denature these things with substances that are only unpleasant, rather than also deadly.
