OD signs?
Is it a bad sign if you start getting pins and needles in your face and your face starts going numb? Swim was sitting there enjoying the sensation of pins and needles and his face going numb he figured it would stop at one point but it kept building up so he stood up and walked around a bit then it went away. What the hell was it? It was building up so much that he was about to faint then he thought he was ODing so he got up and walked it off which worked luckily. Anyone else had this?
Only thing swim did different was took a multivitamin pill on top of his Ritalin. He just read there on the bottle it tells you to ask your doctor about it if your on any meds. |

Re: OD signs?
HorseBucket,
Yes, this is potentially a bad sign. At what dose was the methylphenidate ingested? It could have been some strange vitamin B12 irregularity - been known to cause pins-and-needles sensations. However, such sensations have also been linked to heart-irregularities, which is a much more severe condition that easily merits medical attention. |

Re: OD signs?
140mg methylphenidate. Actually they're multimineral tablets. Heres whats in them.
CALCIUM (CITRATE, CARBONATE) 135MG MAGNESIUM (CITRATE, HVP* CHELATE) 150MG IODINE (POTASSIUM IODIDE) 112.5 MICROGRAMS ZINC (CITRATE) 10MG SELENIUM (L-SELENOMETIONINE, HVP* CHELATE) 100 MICROGRAMS COPPER (GLUCONATE) 1MG MANGANESE (GLUCONATE) 2.5MG CHROMIUM (POLYNICOTINATE, PICOLINATE) 150 MICROGRAMS MOLYBDENUM (CITRATE) 25 MICROGRAMS SILICON (HVP* CHELATE) 2MG VANADIUM (CITRATE) 20 MICROGRAMS Swims noticed that he tends to hypoventilate when hes on Ritalin could that have anything to do with it? |

Re: OD signs?
140 mg is a pretty high dose for methylphenidate. It could easily be the culprit. Especially if this is a regular dosing level.
I've heard of too much zinc and magnesium causing strange abnormalities like the one you described as well, however. Perhaps a combination of both pretty high doses would cross-potentiate such a strange abnormality? |

Re: OD signs?
Maybe it's a loss of blood to the face?...
Swim has had his lips and hands and legs turns slightly bluish while on amphetamine. So he took a hot bath to hopefully dilate blood vessels. He also had a strong cup of coffee with his big insufflated dose. He lived. But it could have turned into a clot or something worse. If I were swiy, not that I do drugs, I would recommend he cut back.. Although, it could be some sort of muscle spasm in the face. |

Re: OD signs?
Swim was thinking that actually. His symptoms were fairly similar to someone about to have a stroke. Swim sometimes gets these tense pains in the muscles on his shoulders. Swim gets lots of side effects that are many people would probably class as cause for concern so swims gonna take it more seriously from now on. First thing swim thought was "oh shit this is an OD" then he ponders the situation and realizes what a stupid way to die that would be so figured he could get up and walk it off. Its true dying of a Ritalin overdose would be one dumb way to go. Ritalins not even a decent drug if your gonna die of an OD you might as well OD on a proper drug haha.

Re: OD signs?
Did swiy have a heart attack? Lots of hard drugs have such mild effects on swim its hard for him to believe that you can OD just like that. Swim still can't really believe that you can OD on crack but it really happens. People die from smoking too much of it.

Re: OD signs?
Here's a quote from swim.
"I had stolen an old bottle of ritalin that was left over from when my brother stopped taking it. I hadn't been using stimulants for very long and they had a euphoria unlike any other. So I stayed up for a day and a half snorting/popping a few hundred milligrams of methylphenidate total. I got to the point where I did not feel a high at all. I thought my tolerance was just high and all I had to do was take more. Wrong. I learned the hard way that physical tolerance goes up WAY slower than psychological tolerance. I snorted 100mg at once, and my heart went racing. (Amazingly, I can snort this much adderall without an overdose because it's a much less anxious drug) My heart was going 170 beats per minute for over an hour. These weren't regular fast heart beats like when you just got done doing an extreme workout. Each heart beat felt like it went an inch out of my chest. I truly thought I was going to die. And really, my heart could have went out of rhythm any second. I also was having so many muscle spasms I couldn't control my movements at all. I couldn't even close my eyes. Unfortunately, I was by myself too, and I wasn't in the slightest condition to call an ambulance or get help. I was trying to lay down so my heart wouldn't go any faster and explode. After an hour or so, it died down to 150 beats per minute and kept lowering. Followed by anxiety attacks for a couple days straight. I've never experienced anything like this in my heavy adderall binges that started a year afterwards. I felt like I made peace with myself during that time and really learned to appreciate life. I was 99% sure I was going to die and I just accepted it and tried to stay as calm as possible in case I could have lived. Fortunately I did. After that, I started setting limits, and I started monitoring my blood pressure during binges too. I actually quit stimulants for about a year, then started doing them in a more responsible manner. If I can't get high off X amount of amphetamine/methylphenidate, I just stop because my tolerance is too high and the only way I'm going to safetly get higher is by letting it go down first. I realized my mind can take more than my body and I should have realized that before. A few months later, I also had dye put through my blood vessels for a kidney stone, which they were actually thining I had problems with my apendix. They didn't point out any damaged blood vessels. So I'm assuming they're okay. The day after the binge, swim couldn't sleep for another 20some hours, and his chest felt very tight and somewhat painful. It scared me but now I realize it was just angina from my heart going so fast and from the following anxiety. Now my tolerance to methylphenidate is still so high all it does is give energy and anxiety and no euphoria. Unlike amphetamine. So I stay away from the shit." Sorry he ranted a bit. But yeah. That's his overdose. It could have been worse. Fortunatley he didn't have a seizure or something too. And he was only 17 and has a good circulatory system. It's funny how different he reacts to amphetamines versus methylphenidate. |

Re: OD signs?
That musta been one bastard of a line. 100mg is about the amount swim crushes up and snorts but hes looked at the clock a few times it takes him about 20 minutes to get through it. Swim must have a naturally high tolerance though cuz after 2 weeks of not taking it he'll take about 120mg in the space of an hour and never come close to ODing. Swims got through over 200mg in one night before. Swim has UNHOLY CRASHES on the shit and sometimes hes convinced hes on the verge of death though. Its definitely not one of swims drugs of choice.
Yeah sounds like swiy was on the verge of a heart attack there. Good thinking lying down like that. Whatever happened swim yesterday it wasn't excessive heart beat he thinks it was the opposite. He couldn't feel his heart beat at all and when your face tingles and your head goes numb its because of lack of blood reaching your head swims had this before due to low blood pressure. Swim thinks its a sudden lack of blood though because swims hands (mainly his right hand) always go blue like swiys describing and they go ice cold. So cold people get a fright when they shake hands with swim cuz they think they're shaking hands with a corpse or something haha. Low blood pressures nothing serious though its high blood pressure thats dangerous swim hears. Swim woke up this morning with this ringing in his left ear that lasted about 5 hours and although he could still hear fine through both ears he had this feeling like he was deaf in one ear. You know that off balance feeling you get when one ears filled with water. Last edited by HorseBucket; 07-04-2009 at 14:52. |

Re: OD signs?
Yeah. Swim can snort so much more amphetamine than methylphenidate. It's crazy. Methylphenidate gives me severe anxiety and he already gets panic attacks normally. Amphetamine drives anxiety away though =] Although he's starting to get more into morphine than anything else.
There is no way in hell that stuff is lowering your blood pressure at those doses. Severely constricted blood vessels result in high blood pressure. Probably very high. Swiy needs to go out and pay $30 at walgreens to get a home blood pressure monitor. They're easy to use. Just make sure he holds still, keeps his legs out and perpendicular to the ground, his arm is level with his heart, and the little chord that comes from the part that inflates goes down the center of his arm. While having his palm facing up. There are tutorials online. It's a very good investment to any stimulant user. |

Yea it couldnt have been low blood pressure. It was something else causing his head to go numb. Jesus christ blood pressure kits are that cheap? Thanks for the advice swims definitely gonna get one. High blood pressures dangerous shit theres plenty of stuff that lowers it. Apple cider vinegars meant to be good for controlling blood pressure but swim doesnt think thats an immediate remedy. He'll look into it. |

Re: OD signs?
Avoiding salt and eating lots of potassium is the biggest help. Potassium dilates blood vessels.
And no.Amphetamine is A LOT less anxious to a lot of people. It's a lot more psychological and a lot less peripheral. Swim has always felt that way about amphetamines. Swim doesn't really get much euphoria out of opiates per say, unlike adderall which which make swim feel on top of the world and have a grin on his face. But it's just nice and relaxing and removes pain swim deals with a lot. Plus there's no comedown or sleepless nights. Swim will always love stimulants more deep down, but opiates are still going to have a place in his heart pretty damn close to those amazing amphetamine highs when his tolerance is low. Swim benefits from ADHD medication a lot more than he does from opiates. Being that he has ADHD and lovessssss the appetite loss. |

Re: OD signs?
Haha 3 things swim consumes on a daily basis. Potatoes and a big glass of milk and when he's not hungry he eats apples and bananas because they're easy to eat for swim when he's not hungry for some reason. Eating big dinners is hard when swims off his head on Ritalin but he horses it into as a challenge. That takes away the crash. He never crashes when he has a full dinner in him.
