whats keeps swiy full time?

everyone has their reasons...why does the fictional character swiyou prefer to be a full time addict(assuming that swiyou feels he/she has a choice)??

chippers seem to be much more in control of what they do...why not chip and save swiself from heroin robbing you of money/high feeling after awhile??

Chippers also have less tolerance...swimmer does not even think he does it enough to be called a 'chipper' but swimmer does it about once to twice a month maybe even once every two months...swimmer has gotten to the point of doing it everyday and it just takes everything away so one has to be smart about it yes? anywho

pffff pffff passs

Re: whats keeps swiy full time?

Addiction is psychological as much as physical. For instance, withdrawal is physical and makes SWIM need more H. But the desire to shoot up, which seemingly strikes SWIM thirty minutes after he last injected, is purely psychological. The weird thing is, SWIM considers himself a chipper of sorts even though he uses daily. For five years, he has functioned on opiates: holding a job, raising a family, etc. In other words, even though SWIM uses daily, he keeps his daily habit within limits. He has yet to become the person who shoots ten or twenty bags a day.

But like Junkhead says, no one prefers or chooses to become a full-time addict.

Re: whats keeps swiy full time?

Although swim did realise he was getting into trouble with the gear, and knew the consequences from seeing those around him hooked, for whatever reason, at that point in swim's life he was thinking, 'fuck it'.

It only takes one little mess up like that to get yourself into trouble with gear, it's really not a forgiving substance. Swim's tried to get off many times, but unfortunately, despite all the shite which you have to deal with when your on gear full time, that is still preferable to how you feel with no gear at all.
Swims sure that if he could stay clean for 5 years or so, then life would be pretty much back to normal, but somewhere on the way, he just thinks, 'fuck it'.

Re: whats keeps swiy full time?

all very good points...

swimmer believes that everyone here has had that same 'fuck it' attitude before...

can't really put our finger on life all the time and that agitates the hell out of a lot of people...Life is birth and death, what you do in between is just killin' time..can't really say for sure what we are here for...so that's what it seems like a solid answer.

swimmer likes the gear a lot but the story ends with him by himself in a corner....there is a lot of beautiful things going on all around us but I think inner city life and just excess bullshit in general leads to us wanting some relief...swimmers girlfriend is a great gal, and swimmer would not want to fuck with what they have

Re: whats keeps swiy full time?

Ehm...actually someone, at least one, did choose for fulltime addiction...and thats SWIM.
Of course, the question is WHY. Well, simple as that: SWIM was suicidal (4 attempts, one of which heroin OD, missed the vein though, but still got into a coma of 6 days in hospital) and she just couldn't see any point in living. Chipping was not good for her, it only got her to heaven and then back to the earthly hell...so after 1.5 years of chippin she decided to turn "pro". On 25th dec , 18:30. Yes, she looked at the time. Seeing other junkies goin so wild for it when addicted, she thought she should give it a chance to turn into the point-of-living she never had. And it did.
Not sorry for this choice, still...SWIM's no more suicidal, just prefers to score rather than jump from some building and never get high in eternities...
