I found a medical document about "overdosing" water. Have any of you ever herd of overdosing on water?!? I thought it was funny as hell!!

document: water intoxication
You would need to chug down about three quarts of water or more all at once to come down with a case of true water intoxication. It does happen, but so rarely that I couldn't find statistics on the number of cases. These people become drowsy, lightheaded, and weak. They have trouble coordinating bodily movements and thinking straight, looking and feeling as if they just stumbled out of the local bar. But the water-intoxicated can't just go home and sleep it off. They must get treatment or risk going into convulsions, a coma, or even death.

What most Americans actually need to worry about is getting the eight glasses of water nutrition experts recommend (that's eight 8-ounce glasses). They suggest even more for athletes or people living in hot climates. While it may seem like a lot, it really isn't when you recognize that water accounts for up to 80% of your body weight and plays an integral role throughout in the smooth functioning of your body's vital systems.

It's no wonder, then, that falling short of the daily recommendation may make you ill. At first, you might feel thirsty and tired. Left unchecked, dehydration will progress with a loss of appetite, nausea, tingling in the arms and feet, labored breathing, dizziness, and possibly mental confusion.

You can prevent these symptoms from appearing by making sure you get your daily dose quota of water. Remember, it's a nutrient, too -- more important than any vitamin or mineral. Besides, what could be more refreshing than a cool glass of water? Include it during lunch, a mid-morning break, and even happy hour. Here's to good drinking.
actually I found this document in different places on the net. the best search is go to yahoo.com and type in the search bar " can I overdose on water? ". Im pretty sure your going to get something.

umm, the problem would be that you are not getting the
salts and minerals that you need. if the osmotic pressure
(salt, organic content) is low enough i can imagine water would diffuse
via osmosis into your tissues, causing the cells to swell and perhaps
even burst. doesn't sound smart. also, your going to be pissing your
pants or damaging yourself with that amount of fluid in your body.<!--

Isn't this one of the bigger problems of X? people in club/raves scenes
consuming too much water in a short period of time and ending up in the
hospitol, not because of the x but because of the water. a professor of
mine explained this one, it has a medical name for it and its not
'water intoxication'

<b style="">Water Poisoning</span>[/b]

The Risks of Over-Hydration</span>

by Erowid</span>

v1.0 - </span><st1:date year="2003" day="15" month="9">Sep 15, 2003</span></st1:date></span>

The
fact that water can cause fatal overdoses is not well known. Often called
"water intoxication" or "hyponatremia" (low salt)1</span>,
water poisoning results when too much water is ingested in too short a time
without replenishing electrolytes, particularly sodium and potassium.

The human body (as with other animals) maintains an equilibrium of electrolytes
in the bloodstream as part of its normal operation. Sweating causes the body to
lose salt, but the primary cause of hyponatremia is drinking enormous amounts
of water, which dilutes the salt in the body to a dangerous level. As the
electrolyte levels get dangerously out of balance, body systems begin to fail
and the sufferer exhibits signs of crisis such as diarrhea, over-salivation,
stupor, vomiting, muscle tremors, confusion, frequent urination and other
general symptoms of illness, and their brain begins to swell. This swelling is
called a 'brain edema' or 'cerebral edema' and can lead to brain damage,
paralysis, and sometimes death.

Water poisoning deaths are a real (although small) problem with recreational
MDMA use; for more information about this see the <a href="http://www.erowid.org/chemicals/mdma/mdma_health_water.shtml" target="_blank">MDMA Health
& Water Issues page</a>. There are occasional deaths in the </span><st1:country-region><st1lace>US</span></st1lace></st1:country-region> and </span><st1:country-region><st1lace>Canada</span></st1lace></st1:country-region>
from people accidentally drinking too much water, and some from intentional or
forced overconsumption, such as the case of a young man required to drink two
or more gallons of water <a href="http://www.nytimes.com/2003/09/15/nyregion/15HAZI.html" target="_blank">as part of a
college fraternity hazing ritual</a>.

How susceptible one is to the dangers of hyponatremia seems to be partially
dependent on body weight, how much food is in the system, and other factors not
yet understood which make up individual variation in response. The body has a
system for regulating electrolyte balance and it eliminates excess fluids
through urination. Some people's urine regulation systems (partially controlled
by Anti-Diuretic Hormone [ADH], also called vasopressin) do not respond as
quickly in some circumstances.

Health professionals recommend taking electrolytes dissolved in liquid or
eating salty snacks when drinking large amounts of water to make sure that a
proper balance is being maintained. For instance, sometimes when people are
trying to avoid an alcohol hangover, they may drink (or have their friends force
them to drink) more water than they would normally drink. In such cases, salty
crackers, chips, or some other kind of salt source can help the body absorb the
water and eliminate it properly without risking further throwing the
electrolytes out of balance.<br style="">

- Erowid uses the
term 'water poisoning' instead of the far more common 'water intoxication'
because we believe it better describes the problem. As we focus our information
on people who are familiar with different types of intoxication, it seems
unwise to associate this dangerous and unpleasant effect with any type of
recreational potential. </span>

When I use MDMA, I try and drink 1 pint of water/hour. This seems to keep everything functioning correctly and is a good rule of thumb IMO.

I have discovered the true cause of death with water intoxication..... It is stupidity ! Drinking enough water to kill you is very hard, even under the influence of X.

SWIM drinks so much fluids when he's on the ski slopes (cola), he's probably come close before. He's definitely screwed up his electrolyte balance a bit... usually gets bad muscle cramps in calves & feet after a long roll, which is a possible symptom. Could be from too much muscle tension also, but happens *after* the roll and after he's gotten some sleep.Edited by: Nicaine

I heard from a few different sources that you can also die by
drinking too much water... not from losing all the salts and minerals,
but from actually drowning yourself..? But it never happens unless
its on purpose because apparently it happens when you drink so
much water in such a short amount of time that before it has a
chance to get out of your body, you fill up more and more with it
and it can actually spill into your lungs and start messing up your
breathing until you actually physically drown.(Not completly sure
about this though..)

Belive me, is is related to the muscular tension. Try drinking gatorade instead of water on your next (cola) abuse and my guess is nothing will change.

also, if someone gets as wasted on E as to drink 8 - 12 L of water he would pobably hurt himself on many other ways before that happens. "water intoxication" and many many other hazards can be avoided by having a sitter.

More than one person has died of water intoxication in an attempt to
flush out "toxins" before having to take one of those evil,
demeaning, and invasive piss tests.
