Search Warrants and Leased Storage

What I was wondering is...at many apartments, there is, included on the lease, a "storage space" supplied to the lessee for stuff like the bar-b-q grill, tools, etc. This is in the basement of the building the lessee occupies an apt. in.

What are the legal requirements (if any) for a LEO to go snooping?
