Pharmacology - Mixing of drugs dulling MDMA experience?

Last night my friend SWIM popped ecstasy, but the experience was so dull, he's positive it has to do with drug interactions.

The x was pretty much a last minute decision, and he'd popped alprazolam (4mg.) about 3-4hrs. before. Because Xanax is a rather short-acting benzodiazepine, I told him this should be the minimum time he waited in order to not dull the x.

He took about half crushed, and railed it.. while waiting for the other half to kick in (which he took orally). After about 1-2hrs.. he didn't feel anything, so he railed 60mgs. Vyvanse (lysdexamfetamine) hoping for synergistic effects.

And for the rest of the night, SWIM was awake, but somewhat distant, while still... pupils were dilated out the fuck, but there was absolutely no feeling of euphoria what so ever. Just this weird calm, speed up feeling..

At first I thought it was entirely because of the benzo, but that should have worn off by the time the Vyvanse was taken. Any ideas as to why this could have happened?

SWIM has taken MDMA and been having a good time. They then took Coke and it totally sobered them up, killing the effects of the MDMA.

SWIM would suggest not wasting MDMA by mixing it (unless they're hippyflipping).
