The Associated Press3:22 PM EDT, March 31, 2009 SAN DIEGO - Authorities said a 63-year-old man suspected of drunken driving crashed his pickup truck into a neighbor's house, leaving a gaping hole and revealing a small marijuana farm inside. San Diego police got a search warrant after the Sunday afternoon crash and confiscated more than 20 pot plants from the house.

Police Sgt. David Jennings said no one was inside the house, and neighbors told officers the residents were gone on a ski trip.

No one was injured in the crash.

So basically they come home from this trip, and not only have thousands of dollars of damage, but also no longer have any pot.

I think that is only a small part of their problems. Likely they will face prosecution for producing cannabis, with intent to distribute, conspiracy to produce cannabis, etc. etc.
It doesn't matter that the house is damaged, as the US government will confiscate it anyway. Possibly the same goes for anything on their bank account.

I am not sure if it works this way in San Diego, but I have read many similar cases in the USA that ended up this way.

Yea the pot people will get fucked, and the drunk driver will be a hero for mistakenly saving the lives of so many people that weed negatively influences...

...There's one loophole to this, though it's unlikely that it'll be used. Iff they were growing with a valid medical license as caregivers, and didn't go over their allotment (I forget CA's laws I've been reading so much lately that I'm getting states confused), they can sue at least the driver in civil court and may get off the hook on the weed.

With 20 plants the chances of this are rather slim though.

Wouldnt that be illegal search and seizure? Or since it was part of a crime scene it gave probable cause to go inside and erradicate the obviously visisble cannabis plants?
