poppy pods in Ireland

Are poppy pods sold anywhere in Ireland? SWIM has never seen them in florists or garden centers or anything, only in gardens. A yes or no will do as we're not allowed to discuss sources. If SWIM know they're here SWIM won't stop looking till he finds them. Also anyone know of any commercial poppy fields in Ireland? I saw in another thread that some lucky bugger in the UK stumbled across a farm full of them.

Re: poppy pods in Ireland

They are probably sold as "food grade poppy seed" or "breadseed". Probably even in local health food stores or supermarkets.

Peace

Re: poppy pods in Ireland

That would leave to much of a trail for SWIM's liking. He does not want it to be on record that he purchased a large amount of a controlled substance. SWIM grows them as it is but was just wondering if he could walk down to the shop to buy them aswell or have them during the winter. The poppy plant and "poppy straw" are both listed as illegal substances in Irish law but are grown in gardens around the country and the seed is readily available in supermarkets and gardening centers.

Well if they're a controlled substance over there, as you state, then swiy has no chance of finding them in a garden centre of whatever.

Neither Peyote or San Pedro (or any mescalin bearing cactus for that matter) are controlled in Ireland.

As yaba said, your best bet is buying online. You could also try a shop selling dried flowers used for flower arranging.

Re: poppy pods in Ireland

That's what the headstores thought too... before they were raided and all there cacti were taken. They are being prosecuted. The Misuse of Drugs Act 1977 lists mescaline as a controlled drug, then in paragraph 5 it states: Any preparation or product containing any proportion of a substance or product specified in paragraph 1, 2, 3 or 4 of this Schedule. I would interpret this to mean that a cactus containing the drug mescaline is in itself a controlled drug. The argument at the moment is that if my interpretation of the law is correct that magic mushrooms never were legal in the first place and there was no need to change the law. Cacti are legal as long as you can prove without a doubt that you own them only for cultivational purposes. Paragraph 6 states "poppy straw" is a controlled drug, defining poppy straw as all parts, except the seeds, of the opium poppy, after mowing;

Re: poppy pods in Ireland

Not sure about Ireland but in most places poppy pods are legal to own and people do so for decorative purposes, flower arrangements, put them in a vase on the mantel piece, etc..

But extracting the goodies or modifying them is illegal... But like I said swim doesn't know the law regarding (dried) poppy pods in Ireland.

Re: poppy pods in Ireland

Yeah, is swim sure that poppies are illegal in Ireland? Coz they seem to be legal in just about every country, of course except for a few, The Netherlands being one i think.

Re: poppy pods in Ireland

Poppy pods grow allover the UK, in domestic gardens and on wasteland...they need lots of sunshine so check out sunny places.

Swim finds them allover the place between June-October....can't see why it would be much different in Ireland.

Good luck in your search!

Re: poppy pods in Ireland

Swim just found a website claiming that opium poppy does infact grow wildly in Ireland, can anybody confirm this ? Or does anyone have any further info on purchasing poppy pods legally in Ireland ( not using the internet ) ?
