While street dealers continue to cut the substance 2-3 times to generate more profits, regular users are becoming uninterested with cocaine. The high is becoming weaker thus making the users detach from using and spending money on the drug; which means loss of business for the producers. This is good for the people but not so great for the large distributors particularly in Bolivia, Colombia, and Peru.
Cocaine producers have upgraded their substance to entice more dealers, and specially users, to increase the buying interest of their product. Mentha piperita (mostly found in menthol cigarettes such as Newport and Kool) are now being added in cocaine to increase the alkaloid effects of the substance. This new commidity is called, Mint Cocaine or also known as ‘Menthol Cocaine’, ‘Menthos’, ‘Iced Coke’ or ‘Coolio’.
Mint cocaine types have been rising in popularity in urban communities, and the highest use has been among young teens, newer users. Cocaine chemists and producers found a deliberate strategy to recruit and addict young teens and users by adding menthol to increase the high potency, longer stimulant and effects, and more anesthetic experience. The stimulant potency could last 30 minutes to 45 minutes, depending upon the dosage of cocaine taken, purity, and method of administration.
The soothing and cooling effect that relaxes the nostrils and throat is the most pleasant feeling when Mint Cocaine is snorted. For the recreational users, it opens the gateway to smoking cigarettes and drinking more alcohol to enjoy the anesthetic feeling of the substance. It is highly addictive and slowly spreading throughout the United States and Europe.
DEA officials say the minty stuff is sold for $1,100-1,400 an ounce ($38-$49 a gram) about twice as much as the "wholesale" price of ordinary coke. Mint-flavored cocaine has been making headlines in California for the past few years, and it seems like this may be the next big thing.
