X has thinking about trying some DMT, has been reading some of the posts of friends of users on the forum but is confused by measures and doesn't want to end up a veg for life.

So when people talk about ie... 50mg is this milligrams ie 100th of a gram?

Cheap digital scales have one decimal place, more expensive sets two, so I'm guessing that for example 50 mg would show on the scales as 0.05gms?

swim is a little confused about what you asking, but, 1 mg stands for 1 milligram or 1/1000th of a gram, so 50mg would be 50/1000 grams or .05 grams. not sure if that answers the question but swim tried

You're correct in saying that .05 g represents 50 mg of a given substance. This is a reasonable first-time dose, though it may be quite a strong experience (assuming smoked methods). Keep in mind that the whole experience is quite short compared to other psychedelics due to the compound's rapid rate of diffusion, and therefore presents the option of multiple distinct experiences within one day/night. There is a slight compounding characteristic, but not significant enough to affect dosage. Therefore, one might consider beginning at a slightly lower dose to become familiar with the radical effects, and then progress to higher doses when comfortable.
The dose-response curve up to 50 mg is likely quite steep; the effects experienced will be noticeably different at 20 mg when compared to 40 mg. After 50 mg, the effects continue to increase in magnitude, but not quite as quickly given increases in dose. Therefore, your choice of 50 mg is astute, in that it divides 'break-through' doses from 'workable' ones pretty consistently (of course everyone is different in multiple ways, so this particular dose will vary between individuals). However, Swim would recommend investigating lower doses prior to jumping right to, or over, 50 mg to best facilitate favorable experiences, as well as perceptions of the compound.

More likely, any amount from approximately 45mg to 54mg would likely show up as 0.05g. While this would probably get swiy by, when measuring specific chemicals that are as active as DMT, one will want to be careful when using inaccurate scales. It would be best to purchase a scale that has the capability to measure milligrams. This will most likely be a bit more pricey, but if swiy shops around, he should be able to find one for a decent price. SWIM would advise looking around for one before swiy ventures off into DMT land.
