Re: Evil animals......

SWIM has been chased by cows. They are much bigger close up. SWIM has often worried about them getting startled and stampeding.

Re: Evil animals......

Yeah I always get a chase off a bull in one of the fields and all the other cows run after him. I had to jump over a ditch to get away from him and then the bastard tried to eat my plate of mushrooms. I ran at it screaming which startled it a bit but as I turned for the gate the chase was back on. I have no idea what's the best way to handle this. The field's by a golf course so it wouldn't look suspicious if I brought a club for defence.

Re: Evil animals......

Yeah, one autumn I had to go into the forrest to look for a couple of sheeps that had not returned from grazing that season.
After walking for a few hour into the bush without any sight of the sheeps

I thought it best to return while there still was daylight, even though I was well known in the area and was following a path.
As I was walking back home I was consentrating on any possible sheep bells because we had to send them to the slaughters(no wonder they ran away perhaps)

As I reached a opening not really focusing on the path I'm walking on, there suddenly is a huge moose blocking the path about 70 yards away from me.
I'm normally not worried about those when I'm out because they never show any hostillity towards humans unless you get between the cow and calf, and this was clearly a lone animal in front of me. Still, it was getting dark and people has been maimed and killed by them in the past, so I jumped a little when I saw it standing there. None of us moved, it just stood there watching me and I was standing like a post thinking it was gonna move out of the way any second now.

But it did not move. I deceided to move towards it while shouting "get out of here" with my most manly voice.
Then it made some treatening noices, turned and started runing my way! I was frozen for a moment thinking "WTF! this is not happening" while I felt the ground shake from this gigantic animal.
Then snapped out of it and ran like I have never ran before up a hillside.

Thankfully there was a good sized Pine three not far away, and those are usually the most suited for climbing in this area, so I headed for it and raced up the three like a 200lb squirrel. You will not belive the speed one can reach, climbing when the biggest animal on these parts want to pick a fight with you. Luckily I managed to reach a good height in this particular Pine three. I had not looked back while runing so there was no way of telling where the moose was right now, but it could be heared treading around on the forrestfloor below now.

Now I am not squimish when it comes to walking around the woods, even at night because thats what I've been doing since a kid, but now there was a 500 pound moose which obviously has some unresolved issues walking around down there, and this was before everyone had a cell phone, so I must admit it was not such a confident boy standing up in that three. To top it all it was now too dark too see much of anything and all those leaves ratteling in the wind made it impossible to tell tell where the moose was at that moment.

But I had to get home and after a while I slowly decented down the three, constantly watching out for the moose. When I felt certain it had not made an ambush underneath the three, I jumped down and made my way back to the path. Because of the wind and the dark it was hard even to see the path home and I was half expecting the animal to jump out on me.
I would not say I ran like crazy, but I definatly not stoping to smell the flowers on the way home

Next day I learned the some hunters has shot a calf while the cow had escaped some days earlier(they are in season in the fall) and several people had been reporting about an aggressive moose cow after that insident. I heard it too got shot some days after I met it.

There is no telling if it would have caused me any harm(though it did follow me to that three), but I did not have any advere feelings towards it. I just thought it was a sad story. The cow had lost the calf it had cared for and bonded with all since spring, because some hillbilly had to compensate for his tiny penis

Re: Evil animals......

The thing about cows is that they are curious little fuckers (a lot like dogs really), and most of them associate humans with food. Usually they'll just come within 20ft of you and sit there and stare. It can be pretty creepy, so Labrat usually tries to stay away from them. Plus, generally if you get close to them they start mooing more and could cause unwanted attention. The only time Labrat really worries about them though is if a bull with balls (literally) comes around stamping his feet and shit...

I wonder if a cowsuit would not make a clever disguise for shroomhunters. But then again that might increase the balled bull problem...

Re: Evil animals......

Swim was walking his presa canario and there were cows coming from everywhere... He and his dog made a run for it !

Strange to think that a presa canario will protect his owner from everything and still I decided to run, don't know how to deal with cows. And they are getting bigger and bigger the closer they come ! And believe it or not cows do run to.

if im honest im i was a bit of a farmer boy not so long ago(lack of work and stuff) if u run they do too! a bit like dogs realy if u run away from a dog they tend to chase you the thing is humans have been feeding them by hand since they were young so they just assume every human means food! if you just stand still they will come close but they never seem to come 2 close if they do jus shout they run away then this probably would bring alot of attention to you though a group of cows following you while on the search! i thinkk sum 1 might of said this earlier!! bulls are the buggers full of rage and hate everything that isn't a cow pisses them off! and they can almost run through anything if they realy realy want to! fences ova hedges just don't piss em off or you wills be buggered and go sumwhere else evil animals lol!

Re: Evil animals......

Herd animals can be dangerous as all hell. Even deer can severely fuck you up if not kill you. Seems like trying to scare them away is a bad idea, probably best to calmly back away quietly if they start getting defensive or snorting.

And Jesus, a moose? Man I've seen those buggers, quarter ton and 14 feet tall, you're damn lucky to have escaped.

An old friend of mine once got chased by a pack of pigs while biking in Florida. They were small ones, but they had tusks and were out for blood. They kept up with him for 15 minutes! Had he been on foot he would have been in a LOT of trouble.

Anyone know what to do in case of packs of wild pigs?

Re: Evil animals......

The big ones can be around 300 lbs with huge tusks. Much more scary than cows. SWIMS man always laughs at her about getting nervouse around the cows. He always tells her "what are they going to bite you and naw your bones." This makes her laugh but it still freaks her out to hear them moving around in the dark. The worst is when you are looking down at the ground for mushrooms and dont realize you've walked up on one of them. SWIM says"Ohh my god a cow! Who put that there?"

What one is more scary?

swim dunno what to do with horses swim thinks they just go mental if they don't know yaa....and as for the bull certain breeds when not castrated when young go massive due to a huge burst of testosterone which also fill's them with anger tbh swim has seen bigger swim got chased by sum sort of massive shire horse swim dosn't know how swim beat it to the gate but as soon as swim left the field the horse seemed to chill out then lol the horse had probably been munchen on sum of the shrooms in the field and started to freak wen swim appeared...lol
