Ride the Snake! A first time account

SWIM went on his first trip last night. SWIM and his friend took 1/2 hit, as suggested by SWIM's cousin. SWIM was ultimately glad that he hadn't done more, as his trip shook him to his core.

T+ 0:00 - Bombs away! No bitter taste, as SWIM has been informed to take note of. SWIM's girlfriend had made cheese enchiladas one hour prior, as SWIM hadn't planned on taking a trip this particular evening. SWIM ate so much that he almost barfed, then chased a beer. SWIM had stomach discomfort throughout the trip and would suggest that other trippers eat light before they travel the universe.

T+ 0:30 - Feeling disoriented. No hallucinations.

T+ 1:30 - Friend is tripping, SWIM is not. Watch Planet Earth and get the giggles.

T+ 2:00 - SWIM still hasn't begun to trip, but his perception is distorted.

T+ 2:30 - The theme of the night is "Ride the Snake, man", which apparently is some cheesy line in that Val Kilmer movie, "The Doors". SWIM feels that he have indeed hopped on the snake, as its travels at lightening speeds into the future. A one way ticket.

T+ 3:30 - SWIM doesn't really have psychadelic music to listen to, but Radiohead, Deerhunter, Brian Jonestown Massacre, and ESPECIALLY TV on the Radio seem to do the trick. TVotR was by the far the most interesting and SWIM made music videos of their music in my mind's eye.

Have the LSD giggles. Laughing because of the intensity of the trip and how fucking utterly helpless SWIM is to make sense of the experience. SWIM feels like he is in a new dimension or into the universe.

T+ 3:45 - SWIM has his first near bad trip. SWIM had his eyes closed and saw his face in his mind's eye, metallic and incredibly demon like. Opened his eyes and alerted his sitter. Got in control real quick.

T+ 4:00 - The same room SWIM has spent countless nights in has morphed into an unrecognizable place. SWIM has taken note that his hallucinations are not so much seeing shit that isn't there, but being unable to control his perception. SWIM lets go and enjoys it. SWIM does see shit that isn't there, but there isn't unicorns or goblins around. Just lights and tracers and designs.

SWIM's trip feels the opposite of organic and earthy. SWIM's CEV's are intricate patterns that are all metal based or futuristic technology. Hard for SWIM to put into words. SWIM loves it, though.

T+ 5:00 - SWIM sees LSD/trip as a snake in his minds eye.

The Snake grabs SWIM by the throat and laughs. The snake tells SWIM that he doesn't know what he's fucking with and that he's lucky to have taken such a light dose. That he's a guppie, but if SWIM is dumb enough to try again, he will take him to hell.

SWIM is petrified and sits up. Stares at his arms, which have intricate welt patterns on them. Feels outside of his body. He has been incredibly tense all night, like when he's on MDMA.

T+ 7:00 - SWIM has been lost inside himself for a while, tripping out on the CEV's. SWIM goes to his friend's comic blog (google: Patrick Keck) and giggles for a long time while looking at the comic's/pictures.

SWIM puts on I Heart Huckabees, but then changes it to A Waking Life. Went to the bathroom and stared at himself in the mirror, which was probably the worst mistake of the night. SWIM couldn't tell which side of the mirror he was on or who he was. SWIM goes to sleep with ease.

Final Thoughts:
SWIM woke up nearing a panic attack, but calmed himself.

The Snake is a one way ticket, and SWIM had to embrace his experience or be swept away into the abyss. SWIM was overwhelmed by thoughts of his dead mother at times. SWIM, at times, had difficulty grasping the depth and intensity of the experience and could only laugh at how ridiculously insane it all was.

SWIM is glad to have the opportunity to try the Snake, but will probably leave this potent drug to the elite trippers. SWIM learned that LSD is beautiful, profound, enriching, spiritual and intense beyond description. Yet, SWIM found it to be indescriminate, psychotic, controlling, and potentially very dangerous in high doses. SWIM had a window into what a bad trip can be, and it terrified SWIM to his core. *As a sidenote: SWIM's father took to much acid when he was 20 and it took over 3 years for him to battle the anxiety and insomnia that resulted from a bad trip.

SWIM has the utmost respect for the Snake and doesn't wish to antagonize her again.

Re: Ride the Snake! A first time account

Cheesy like in some Val Kilmer movie aye?

It's a CLASSIC line that couldn't have been said better by the man himself

And at 2:00, swiy WAS tripping if his perception was distorted.

Good read.

Re: Ride the Snake! A first time account

Nice report, especially about the drug being more psychotic and less controllable in high doses. That's right on the money. Still, there are other psychedelics that can take someone very, very far but still remain comfortable throughout - like mescaline.

Re: Ride the Snake! A first time account

Thanks for the feedback! SWIM thinks his experience report is quite corny in retrospect. Perhaps a bit melodramatic. SWIM was just a little freaked out by the experience at the time.

SWIM is definitely interested in experimenting with other more mellow and controllable psychedelics. Mescaline sounds interesting. SWIM loves to hallucinate!
