Supplements that increase GABA?
I want to make a list of supplements that naturally increase the neurotransmitter GABA. SWIM suffers from tactile hallucinations and believes its GABA related. SWIM got his hands on some temazepam from the Doctor and took 40mg and the sensations have completely gone as these act on the GABA receptors (not sure what ones, could someone clarify?). He believes in the healing power of nutritional/supplemental therapy. L-Glutamine + B6 coenzyme (pyridoxal phosphate (P-5-P) synthesise the neurotransmitter GABA.
SWIM doesn't want to be on benzodiazepines for the rest of his life, in fact as little use as possible as on the long run benzo's will make things worse. What other supplements could help increase the neurotransmitter GABA? There's studies that the herb ashwagandha increases acetylcholine receptor activity and has GABA-like activity. What other supplements/herb/nutrients are good for the production of the neurotransmitter GABA? |

Re: Supplements that increase GABA?
picamilon and phenibut are two legal chemical supplements.
Magnolia bark, salvia miltiorrhiza, kava, possibly erythrina mulungu (unsure). Other drugs that might help are gabapentin or pregabalin, though this is not normally what they are used for. |

Re: Supplements that increase GABA?
Maybe the temazepam is just dampening the sensations down which could mean these sensations are more to do with the central nervous system. It would be interesting to find out how benzodiazepines effect the meridian system as acupuncture is also helping. Tai Chi also helps. Coffee and alcohol make it worse, kratom makes it worse. SWIM was using kratom for the anxiety during the day but it nights he was suffering from terrible fear. Opiates soften the kidney meridian making one feel confident but it also blocks it when it wears of which is responsible for the fear SWIM was experiencing at night. This is why heroin addicts go into the fight or flight mode in withdrawal. Or its because the adrenals have been suppressed, which funnily enough are above the kidneys. So neither is wrong ISO. I like to look at both concepts.
