Freezing broken down poppy pods to further rupture the cell membrane
Swim has some H&C poppy pods and has ground eight of them, seeds, stalks, crowns and all into a very fine powder with his blender. He has also just popped them in the freezer at -25C as he thought that this could additionally rupture the cell membrane to ensure all the latex comes out of the cells and none is wasted.
He's just going to purchase some citric acid (lemon juice) and continue the proparation as usual. He was just wondering if this freezing process would be an extra efficient step in general poppy tea preparations? Will it likely notablt increase the end potency? Swim knows that when extracting DMT from phalaris grass it is essential to continually freeze, thaw and re-freeze the phalaris to ensure the cells are ruptured and the DMT is released, but is not sure about poppy pods. His one concern is that the goodies may be broken down in some way at these low temparatures, so is looking for some input in whether this is a good idea or not. Thanks. |

'I do the same with my MHRB and T. Peruvious, and it does work' said the bee to the swimmer

Re: Freezing broken down poppy pods to further rupture the cell membrane
Since the substances that are theoretically being extracted are already water soluble molecules they are readily absorbed into an aqueous solution. However freezing may be of some benefit and SWIM is going to put it to the test.

Yes. SWIM has not found any difference but other people have reported differences in various places.

Re: Freezing broken down poppy pods to further rupture the cell membrane
Swim thinks that to rupture the cell membranes, that instead of being dried/dessicated, the material would have to have some moisture present as it's the growing of ice crystals that do the rupturing.
So maybe leaving some pods for a day or 2 in a cupboard with a pan of water wud work better. FistyCuffs added 1 Minutes and 20 Seconds later... ie, so they take on some of the moisture from the air, are uniformily soft, rather than wet. Last edited by FistyCuffs; 31-05-2009 at 14:33.
