hello you may remember me from my previous thread about my citation for possession and/or use of weed:
http://www.drugs-forum.com/forum/showthread.php?t=79707
well after talking to a lawyer and hearing what my friend who got busted with me was told by his lawyer i just have a few more general questions, I'm not looking for exact, official answers as I know its different with each area but I just want to know how things go in general with each.
Both lawyers revealed that the citation is a simple ordinance violation and is much less serious than an actual criminal charge. The lawyer I talked to said most likely I will only have to pay the fine and none of the other cons that go with a criminal charge will affect me like in job applications and student loans.
The lawyer my friend talked to agreed about the employment but warned that our financial aid and even private loans could be at risk if we simply pay the fine. He suggested sending in a not guilty plea and when meeting with the prosecutor using sympathy about being a student while offering to pay the fine anyway, to bargain for a clean record. This may all depend on how detailed the police report is according to my friend, and I'm trying to get a hold of that as soon as possible. However during my student hearing I glanced at it and it looked pretty thorough, i guess that would make it harder to persuade the prosecutor because we both mistakenly admitted to the cops that we smoked, so if that's on the report that would probably make our case much harder, I'm guessing.
Well most important to me, do students generally lose eligibility to even
private student loans over this? Even an ordinance violation? Federal student loans I'd understand but without private loans I won't be able to continue college.
Second for now is this plea bargain option, I asked about something similar in the last thread but maybe now that I'm more specific someone who's been there could tell me if this is worth it, how likely I'd get it, if a lawyer would be necessary etc.
