Adderall Rx Waiting Time
This is SWIM's first tme on the forums and she's wondering if anyone could answer a few questions her.
SWIM is going to be making a doctor's appoinment soon and isn't sure how to bring up the question of ADD. SWIM's never seen this physician before and doesn't want to seem like she's just trying to get prescription meds out of this, since that is not the case. She has tried Adderall a few times in the past with very good results, and thinks that it would really help her get her life straightened out. However, she thinks that going in and just asking for it would seem pretty desperate and make her look like an addict when all she really wants is to stop having the constant stress over not being able to focus or accomplish anything. So the questions are: How to go about being diagnosed, and how long it would take to get said help? Thanks all. |

Re: Adderall Rx Waiting Time
SWIY should talk to his doctor and let him know that SWIY are having problems focusing and concentrating, (like with school and work). If SWIY don't have insurance, this may be a prerequisite, as general care physicians usually do not give out stimulants. SWIY's local doctor will most likely refer SWIY to a psychiatrist, who will test SWIY and prescribe SWIY's medicine. In the US, you are required to have a doctors visit each time you get a new prescription. It is also likely that the doctor will start SWIY on something with less potential for abuse first, like Concerta. In the event that those do not work, SWIY will likely receive Adderall or the like.

Re: Adderall Rx Waiting Time
as long as SWIY is truly looking to get adderall to fix genuine ADD symptoms (and not to get high/use recreationally), SWIY has nothing to worry about. SWIY shouldn't feel like it's necessary to prepare what to say, but just tell the doctor the problem: SWIY's finding it hard to get on with her/his life because (s)he is always distracted, can never finish tasks and is always doing 10 things at once.
SWIM felt the same way when she went to ask her MD for adderall, because she has a few friends who asked for a prescription just to use it as a drug. SWIM also felt like the doctor wouldn't buy her story about lack of focus/concentration etc. but walked out 15 mins later with a script. SWIM felt like it almost was too easy and wonders whether her MD even considered the fact that many people abuse it. this was confirmed when - after 2 weeks of being on 20mg/day, she requested it to be upped to 40mg/day (by email!!) and that was ok'd without any questions... should be noted though that, SWIM does now abuse (as in takes way more than prescribed) adderall fairly (too) regularly, so please be careful! |

Re: Adderall Rx Waiting Time
Swiy doesn't have to go to the doctor every time. Swim knows two different people who call in ahead of time and just go pick up their scripts from the doctors office. Although, it's going to be somewhat of a bitch to work one's way up to an adderall prescription. The advice above is pretty sound.
Just go to a psychiatrist, work with them, start out with strattera or concerta, work up. Expensive expensive... |

Re: Adderall Rx Waiting Time
Ah, no need for a doctor every time? SWIM stands corrected. He doesn't actually have an adderall prescription, just has a few friends he's talked to in depth about it.

Re: Adderall Rx Waiting Time
Yeah. I've also heard about people moving out of state and having their old doctor mail them the prescription. The only thing they can't do is call it in or fax it, or make it so you can get refills yourself. As long as the doctor hand writes a new script every time I think it's okay. It threw me off at first too, but swim has actually went with the guy to get his script(he waited in the car for a minute), and it definitely only took him a minute to run in there and pick it up, then off to the pharmacy.

Re: Adderall Rx Waiting Time
SWIM's doctor types her RX... It's a PITA to get, unless you're getting it for narcolepsy or a heart condition. Too many other non-stimulants out there.
