Urgent-EtG/EtS alcohol test info needed

Someone swim knows is not supposed to drink alcohol. He did so anyway on friday, having about 12 beers and stopping at 10 pm. He then got an EtG/EtS test on monday at 3 pm (he didn't know he was getting it before hand). The cutoff is 100ng/ml for EtG and 25ng/ml for EtS, which is pretty fucking low. Swims friend did not dilute his urine or anything. He thinks he's probably going to be in trouble.

Swim's friend will be brought before the judge if it is indeed positive. His lawyer will then have the opportunity to say why its bullshit and swims friend should not go to jail. This is where swim would like the help of his fellow DF members. Swim is trying to research if there are any precedents as to the falliability of the EtG test. Swim read about a doctor who locked herself in a room in a straight jacket for a week and then failed an EtG test. He would like more information like that. Official, government or other sources that would be seen as reliable by a judge would be best. Please help as quickly as possible because the results will be back in three days. He'll then have a few more days before swims friend sees the judge.

This is very important to swim and he'll give rep to anyone that provides good info.

Re: Urgent-EtG/EtS alcohol test info needed

There's a looong list of products that contain ethanol. These products have been considered as being able to cause false positives with the EtG/EtS test. This particular test, I'm not so familiar with. Our lab doesn't use this test as we do testing for acute intoxication.

Here's a list:

Re: Urgent-EtG/EtS alcohol test info needed

Thanks!
Swim in his search has found a briefing by the department of health and human services that emphasizes that a positive EtG test can be caused by incidental exposure from the sources such as those listed in that pdf. This is very good as it is very likely to hold up to scrutiny. Swim thinks its worthwhile to upload to the file archive and post here but he isn't sure how to do that. No word yet on the friend's test results, will post back as soon as swim finds out.

SWIM probably screwed. SWIY has weekly ETG testing. Hope to hear good news about SWIM though.

Added file to archives: Incidental Exposure to Ethanol

^ Easiest way to add is to go to Quick Links, under File Archive, Add File.

Re: Urgent-EtG/EtS alcohol test info needed

New file has been added to the file archive: Dept of health and human services 2005 briefing

Details the possibility of failing an EtG test due to exposure to ethanol from sources other than beverage alcohol, and other topics. Could be useful to swimmers facing punishment for failing an EtG test.

Sorry that took so long, hope this helps someone

Re: Urgent-EtG/EtS alcohol test info needed

I guess i would like to know some more details about this...SWIM, has a similar situation. SWIM drank 2 beers of Fri and about 9 beers on saturday night until midnight..SWIM then drank 2 cups of waater before going to bed. Sunday and Monday Swim drank about 2-3 glasses of water for those days, and Tuesday SWIM found out he had a test. From 9am to 4pm SWIM drank about 4-5 bottles of water and ate a light lunch. SWIM took half a vitamin b pill to yellow up the diluted water.

SWIM took the test at 4:30pm and the urine was slightly yellow and did not fill up the cup very far. SWIM is very scurred

so simple recap...bout 65 hours of clean time, plus about 8 glasses of water over the 65 hours. It is also a cut/off level of 100ng

To Creator from thread....How much does swiy weigh and what is swiy height? Does this and metabolism have to do with anything?

yes, swim knows abut the creatine diluation levels, but would rather have them say its diluted rather than getting a positive result

Re: Urgent-EtG/EtS alcohol test info needed

Swim crossing fingers for Swiy. Swim's entire professional career down tubes, but Swim understands principles behind test. Swim really hoping Swiy passes. Alot depends on cut off's which when Swim lost medical license were way too low. Swim's drug court cut-offs are 500ng/ml on EtG. Swiy should be sure and post and let Swim know how it all turns out.

Swim found out no need to stress too much. Then Swim eats other things.

Re: Urgent-EtG/EtS alcohol test info needed

marmaduke: It sounds like swiy probably has a decent shot at passing. Etg tests can be effectively diluted. Swim is 210 pounds. He has passed two etg tests with approximately the same time in between, and similar amount of drinks. One he attempted to dilute, the other he didn't.

I'm interested to hear swiy's results.

BTW swim's test cutoff level was 500ng/ml he found out recently.

EtG/EtS alcohol testing is for second pass (Not alcohol level). Swim knows it is very expensive. Swim knows of people with positive EtG/EtS test 80+ hours after Breathalizer .000%, thus Second Pass Metabolite. Swim knows more and more drug courts and probation using test. Swim's friend got popped four days after drinking.

Swim's drug court had Swim sign away all procedural rights too.
