Can someone help identify this anticholinergic style trip? Anyone had similar?

Hey there,

If someone could help me with this Itd be fantastic. SWIM is still not 100% now but I'm going to try and explain it as best as I can.

Okay, so incase it makes a difference, SWIM just come off of a course of flucoxicillin antibiotics and at the time I was drinking Pepsi Max, which SWIM thought may have caused it due to the caffeine.

Okay, so SWIM and their friend were outside, on the beach. It was quite dark too. They smoked a rizzla, (if you don't have where you are it's a cigarette paper), a normal cigarette sized one. It was just cannabis inside, no tobacco or anything else. Unfortunately, they don't know what strain of cannabis it was.

So after smoking it, SWIM wasn't feeling that much. SWIM did start feeling it a bit. We sat down, and this is where it starts getting hard for SWIM to remember.

Okay so my friend said something and SWIM started laughing really, really badly and like lay down on the stones.

Next thing I knew SWIM was waking up. I was sitting up and I started to realise where I was. It was as if I'd just been unconcious. SWIM's friend did say they blacked out but didn't faint. So it was like SWIM's mind being unconcious but SWIM's body not.

SWIM started coming round and SWIM saw those wooden things in the water whatever the name for them is again, and SWIM was rocking back and forth breathing in and out, and SWIM heard a strange noise in SWIM's head.

At some point or other, my face felt very numb and SWIM punched myself repeatedly in the face until their friend stopped SWIM.

SWIM felt better and started talking to their friend about it. But soon after it started happening again but not as bad. Sort of panicky. SWIM was completely freaked out and didn't know what was going on at parts.

There's so much to explain lol.

At certain times, it was like the back of my head knew what was going on and was being really logical. But the front of my head and my vision wasn't and my vision was sort of spinning but not.

The first cycle lasted about 3 minutes. Then the second one perhaps the same.

All this time my heart was going VERY fast and hard. When I was going freaky my heart was fast and when SWIM was calmer my heart had slowed down but it was still fast.

SWIM's friend thought maybe it was because they were sitting still. So we got up and started walking back, which led us through some very dark roads. S WIM was feeling better walking about but then it happened again.

It was just like being in a dream. You know how a dream feels, unreal. Like only partially there. It felt like SWIM was in a dream, but SWIM wasn't. At some parts I thought maybe it felt like It was like being real but in a dream, or something.

A lot of it felt like memories. Like suddenly SWIM would come back a bit and DWIM would feel SWIM was there but SWIMd just come out of a dream and everything that had just happened was a dream I was coming out of, or a memory.

SWIM kept doing it, coming back then 'blacking out'. But I did it while standing. SWIM's friend as we waited for the bus said something like "are you back now" and told SWIM theyd just blacked out again. But SWIM hadn't fallen over or anything.

It was like zoning in and out of conciousness.

On the bus back (alone) SWIM wasn't too bad but was was still going strange. A lot of the time random songs started playing in SWIMs head for no reason and SWIM sort of sung along to them.

I got back, and SWIMS parents SWIM found out today, didn't even notice. But it seemed to SWIM like they must have noticed because of how bad it felt to me and how strange SWIM was acting. It felt like SWIMd 'blacked out' in front of SWIMS dad.

SWIM ended up going upstairs where SWIM lay down on their bed. It wasn't too bad then, and SWIM started to work out the kind of cycles that were happening.

It went from this strange blackness like barely being there at all, to feeling real like It wasn't too bad and felt, to this whiteness which was like really sorta happy.

SWIM slept for a bit and then woke up then went back to sleep.

SWIM was woken up for their usual daily routine in the morning but said SWIM wasn't going to and said they were ill to SwIMS mum. It was still sorta happening now, 12 hours after taking it, it still hadnt worn off. SWIM slept for a while then woke up at like 10 am ish (woke up first at like 7 something). SWIM felt better but not completely, still really zoned. I slept more and I felt as if I was asleep but not, and SWIM felt very hot and my heart beat was really hard and fast.

Which reminds me, if felt as if at one point the night before, like SWIM could feel my heart slamming against my chest, and against my coat, cos it was so hard.

At times when it was first happening I was wondering if I was having a heart attack or if I could perhaps die, but I wasn't sure. SWIM thought it wasnt a heart attack because I didnt have a numb arm or a coppery taste in my mouth.

I've had a look around and it seems similar to something called the anticholinergic boomerang effect. Which can be brought on by datura tea.

If I can think of anything else I post it up. I really cannot describe it how weird it was to SWIM, and it was VERY unpleasent.

Many thanks guys.

That's exactly what it was. Swim was tripping, cannabis is a hallucinogen, swim is obviously quite sensitive to cannabis and should take smaller amounts in future if he wishes to remain lucid. The 'heart attack' was very likely to have been anxiety, just remember to breath deep, deep into your belly, exhale and repeat.

SWIM did not have different colours although has heard of other people having similar things. SWIM may have hallucinated and SWIM is starting to think when they first 'blacked out' they actually dreamed during that black out, as if they were asleep.

Re: Can someone help identify this anticholinergic style trip? Anyone had similar?

Was SWIY sweating profusely upon initially coming-to?

SWIM has had two similar experiences in the past few months, but both consisted of only a single "cycle". In both cases, SWIM took a hit while standing up, and immediately felt "weird", and had a sense of confusion. SWIM felt as if he was zoning out, and feared that he might fall. SWIM sat down on the couch and apparently lost consciousness. After a period of time had passed, SWIM became conscious and realized he had been in a very vivid dream state for what seemed like hours (but was likely only a few minutes). SWIM was covered in sweat.

This event repeated itself a couple of weeks ago. SWIM took a hit while standing up, felt strange, began to panic, and sat down on the same couch. SWIM awoke from dreamland a few minutes later to SWIM's wife trying to squirt a glucose packet into his mouth. He could see his wife, but could not talk or respond in any way for about 30 seconds, and did not feel entirely normal for at least 5 minutes... SWIM's wife reports that SWIM looked like he was having a seizure or was experiencing hypoglycemia, as he was pale as a ghost and his eyes were sort of rolled back (SWIM gets hypoglycemic sometimes if he does not watch his diet). Upon awakening, SWIM felt like he had been dreaming very vividly for hours. SWIM was covered in sweat. SWIM reports that both experiences felt *exactly* like an extreme hypoglycemic episode, except that he remembers dreaming during the experience.

Seizure? Hypoglycemia? Postural hypotension? Panic? Anticholinergic response? SWIM doesn't know what happened

Re: Can someone help identify this anticholinergic style trip? Anyone had similar?

SWIM's experience was very similar to SWIY's. SWIM would like to thank SWIY for introducing him to Hypoglycemia, as SWIM has just looked up on wikipedia and finds that some of it sounds very similar to SWIM's experience.

SWIM's experience was very similar to SWIY's second experience. The feeling that SWIY had just been dreaming is very familiar to SWIM. To SWIM, it was like every minute or so, they'd just woken up and what had just happened was a dream. Like living, or coming out of a dream or a memory. SWIM cannot remember if they were covered in sweat but it seems the kind of thing which would be likely.

SWIM was similar in the seeing the person they were with. It was like SWIM was like "woah, I remember where I am now". So strange. SWIM had blacked out and lost conciousness (possibly dreaming SWIM thinks) even though SWIM was sat upright and didn't fall over. When SWIM came too it was like remembering where SWIM was.

m190 added 7 Minutes and 2 Seconds later...

"According to the book 'The Mind Machine' by Colin Blakemore, hypoglycemia usually leads quickly to unconsciousness, but as blood glucose level falls, there is 'a window of experience between sanity and coma in which self-control is lost', and the body 'behaves on its own'."

SWIM found this under Automatic Behaviour on wiki. SWIM finds it interesting and similar to SWIM's experience. Although SWIM thinks he had self control at parts. Although SWIM thinks this could definately apply to SWIM's experience at least partially.

SWIM hope SWIY is ok now, doesn't sound like SWIY had a nice time.
