Drug info - Is a dmt trip anything like a mushroom trip?

i dont know if theres already a thread about this but i was wondering if a dmt trip is anything like a mushroom trip im sure there is a big difference.... i was just wondering if someone could explain it

the same can be done for mushrooms.

in swim's experience, shrooms are longer-lasting (hours) and not anywhere near as intense as dmt, which is an instant out of body trip that lasts 15-30 min. she's tried both adn prefers dmt, though she still loves mushrooms on occasion-they're a little more controllable (at least to her) and are like getting to do all the meditation she doesn't have time for in 5 or 6 hours

Haha, and psilocybin mushrooms AREN'T "potentially scary"? SWIM could tell you some tales...

Anyway, psilocin (which is what psilocybin is metabolised into in the body) is 4-HO-DMT, which is just a DMT molecule with one of the hydrogens on the six-carbon ring replaced with a hydroxy group.

Though that doesn't mean a mushroom trip is necessarily very similar to a DMT or ayahuasca trip: it all depends on the method of administration and any other drugs (eg. MAOIs) consumed as well. And as others have said, DMT is not a drug to fuck with if you haven't done your homework...SWIM hasn't tried it but by all accounts it's the Big Daddy of psychedelics.

oh cool! i didn't even think to check the actual chemical structures. good call RF. so yeah, psilocin is a dmt derivative. steric interactions with receptors can be drastically different, and can produce very different effects, depending on the chemical cascade they trigger in the brain.

a side note: my cat has been fortunate enough to not have had any terrifying trips, and she's had many. she has always started low and dosed up. she's had times where she didn't want to be tripping and was definitely uncomfortable, but nothing scary. she's heard many accounts of scary trips, so she by no means meant to imply that a psylocibin mushroom trip can't be scary, just that amanitas tend to be more so RELATIVE to psylocibe mushrooms.

This is key here. Just becuase Psilocybin is technically O-phosphoryl-4-hydroxy-N,N-dimethyltriptamine (or 4-PO-DMT) does not mean that someone doing it has any idea what N,N,DMT is like. I have heard a lot of ignorant people saying that they have done DMT because they have tried psylocybin mushrooms. Then when they try DMT they usually get quite a shock!

Its a simple question, with a complex answer. Probably deserves a whole thread unto itself. I short, no, they are completely different experiences.

But from a chemical/pharmacological point of view its quite complex as they are actually very similar. In summary:

Psilocybin (the ingredient in magic mushrooms), which is 4-PO-DMT, converts into psilocin (which is 4-HO-DMT) in the body after ingestion.

Just because the technical name for Psilocybin, or psilocin, contains the word DMT in the does NOT mean that its effetcs are anything like N,N,DMT.

DMT is DMT and Psilocin is Psilocin. Two different things, two different highs.

As Routemaster Flash pointed out very well above the the two are very similer chemically. DMT (left) and Psilocin (right).



There is reason for debate about whether the DMT aspect is the element that makes all psilocybe mushrooms active. DMT is certainly as fascinating endogenous molecule. Hope that helps! Hope I haven't confused the situation further.

it just depends on how you take it if you smoke it you get a 15 min journey through a psychedelic space, swin has never ingested it only smoked it

but if SWIY wants to get his hands on DMT the easiest way is to extract it himself
all the ingredients are legal and can be bought online

but DMT is a RARE drug to come across a dealer
and normaly theyll find u, u wont find them

May SWIM suggest you get to studying and learning about chemistry if any of these mind molecules interest you in anyway. it will further your understanding and comprehension of what you are putting inside of your body and what it is doing to it. Also there is a LOT of literature written about DMT, a simple search on amazon pulls up pages of books written about the fascinating substance that occurs in many living things.
