Pharmacology - CWE -- With Measurements

SWIM now has his centigram scale, calibration weight set, and lab filters..

SWIM's going to do a CWE and post measurements of precisely what is left behind upon, so swim and anyone with faith in the results can do their filtration with some peace of mind

First.. today's preparation day:

The pills in question:
4x 7.5/750 hydrocodone/apap tablets (IP 118)
weighing in at 3910mg
30mg hydrocodone bitartrate
3000mg apap
880mg junk

Filter paper:
890mg for 1 sheet (this is important as the final weigh will include that paper. Otherwise there'll be some residue loss) of Whatman #4 Qualitative filter paper. (11cm)

Quantity of water:
30 mL initial.
3x 10mL rinse
5 mL to pre-wet the filter (should not affect the quantity of apap that passes through)

Temperature:
For this experiment. Fridge cold. No freezing. If results turn out to be suboptimal, this experiment will be repeated with freezing. The solution will also be allowed to sit in the fridge overnight. So the initial 30 mL should be fully saturated with APAP (so if swiy's crushing and dissolving in 10 minutes, that solution will most likely have LESS then swim's).

Weigh accuracy:
Centigram scale (0.01g). Tested with a 1 gram, 5 gram, 20 gram, and 50 gram calibration weight before AND after EACH measurement. Calibration weights are OIML Class M2. Test is considered a pass if within +/- 2% for the 1 gram test, and +/- 1% for the other tests. (actual deviation for each test is usually .01 to .03g). Weight is accepted when the scale shows the same weight +/- .01g for at least 10 seconds.

Preliminary measurements are in:
The weight of a small piece of foil, some water, residue, and the filter itself is 11.45g. 890mg for the filter + let's estimate for now 3.5 grams in left over pill junk means ~ 7mL of water lost in the process, which actually lines up very well with my final volume measurement: 56.3 mL of water in the container out of 65 mL initial (8.7 mL loss), it's plausible that there was 1.7 mL in evaporation/splashing out/etc in this. Estimated hydrocodone loss is ~ 5%.

Lessons for next time: Wait for more water to drain before adding more water.. (swim was slightly rushed today). Be much more careful with the filter since these rip quite easily.

The final powder is dry (24 hours of drying).

Final weight of the powder: 3.11 grams out of the original 3.91
.8 grams of dissolved solids in 60 mL of final solution (.03 grams of hydrocodone, .77 grams of apap/filler).. decent amount of junk!

Trying again: Final weight = 3.2 grams out of the original 3.91
.71 grams of dissolved solids in 60 mL of final solution (.03 grams of hydrocodone, .68 grams of apap/filler)

SWIM will do a freeze and refilter at some point to check how much additional is removed.
