Culture - How realistic is Paddy's heroin addiction in Shameless - Channel 4/E4 ??

Hi everyone,

Not sure if anyone has been watching Shameless, but Paddy has developed a heroin addiction (through no fault of his own. He was kidnapped and given heroin, then became addicted).

Just wondered any people on here who have seen it what your thoughts were.

I thought it was quite explicit in showing how to prepare the H ready to bang it, not so much when he smoked the dragon.

He seems to have developed the junkie look very quickly though....

SWIM was impressed when he seen Paddy adding lemon to the mix before he cooked up. Overall things were quite graphic (especially for TV) and seem to be fairly realistic and well researched by the writers/producer/director

The withdrawals in the bathroom was sending shivers true swims spine ! And yes it was kind of realistic.

SWIM would say it was pretty realistic but he wouldn't look like shit straight away like that

Call SWIM hopelessly naive but what's with the vitamin e pills he's rubbing into his elbow?

See what SWIyaba means about the bathroom scene -his manic anguish just rolls right out univited into your living room. Plus you know he's dope naive as pacing in a bathroom must be about the most unpleasant way to see out the sickness.

SWIMs kind of confused about what he's got in that spoon too-looks like fag ash to me-is it supposed to be undissolved dope? a filter, that he's cooking? Or maybe just the best Channel4 runners could come up with i spose. SWIM thought he was asking for kelly's help cos he was so dope naive he wouldnt have known how to dissolve it.paddy maguire using lemon indeed?! well spose he would be old school.

Plus SWIM wishes she had enough money to buy dope in baggies..anyone in the UK ever buy dope in a baggie?

points to SWIQueenMaud for starting this thread. the Paddy plot really gripped me ... in fact all that unexpected dope referencing when SWIM was just supposed to be watching shameless innocently saw me taking a long walk down the wrong street when SWIM was supposed to not be going down there for a while...oh well

swim has bought a fivers in a baggie lol but that was just because the dealer put them in that!

Swim missed the last 2 episodes, but vit e reduces scaring so it would be to get rid of his track marks

SWIM has been given gear in a druggy bag before but not many times. It isnt a very good way to do it because it gets caught on the inside
