SWIM has witnessed only two true DMT smoking trips, and is now obligated to warn others.
SWIM extracts N-N DMT and gives to friends who are well experienced in hallucinogens. Only 2 people have crossed the border. This is an outside view on both trips. The first trip was done by A. A decided to smoke 100mg and has only railed 50mg previously. A smokes all of the DMT and immediately begins to tear of his hair (it is down to his shoulders) and is screaming extremely loud. The DMT was provided by his friend. The 2nd trip happened last night, and was experienced by J. J smoke over 100mg, which SWIM provided and delt with the pipe for him. J takes 2 HUGE hits and clears the pipe. before letting out the smoke SWIM knows he is no longer here. SWIM can only see wide eyes, looking at nothing, and a large smile. SWIM begins laughing as he thinks this is funny. J is on a chair and has incense right in front of him. He falls into the incense slowly and is then spooked. J does a literal backflip, flipping the chair and landing on his head. He begins to flail around the room and thrash all his limbs and SWIM is immediatly on him to prevent J from hurting himself. J is non responsive to any senses except for a very slight response to touch. For 15 minutes SWIM laid on J and held his right arm down, which when free would be hitting himself in the face. Luckily SWIM is a wrestler and can easily subdue him. J is calm when SWIMS body weight is holding hi down, but when SWIM is not, J begins to destroy everything and himself. The entire time SWIM is laughing, very very hard as this is the funniest thing he has ever seen and SWIM knows there is no real danger at this moment. J then settles down and SWIM gets off him. J curls into a ball for 5 minutes and slowly regains senses. It is 10 minutes later before he can respond to sound. DMT has earned SWIM's and J and A's respect. J and A's conciousness had both left their bodies, leaving only a shell with no intelligence that seemed infactuaded only with self destruction. Both SWIM and J as CPR certified so SWIM made sure J was breathing and knew it would be fine, but SWIM did get frightened when J began shaking his head very very fast and began foaming at the mouth. This is my warning to any who try DMT, MAKE SURE U HAVE A CAPABLE SITTER I never though a sitter was neccesary for any drug until last night... |

Re: Dmt smoking warning: Self harm
smoke in a bed (or in a deserted beach) is the best way, SWIM has seen many people smoke it this way and nobody ever got hurt or did anything.. only one friend moved around more than usual but he was in the bed so no problem, was just rolling around from one side to the other

Re: Dmt smoking warning: Self harm
Endless is right, skip chairs altogether. Empty room, pillows, mattress on the floor, nothing sharp...
DMT and Salvia do this to folks. I think it's inappropriate to use words like "self harm" and "self destruction" as the people are unaware of what they are doing and generally don't intend on causing damage. It seems to come from the disconnect between the inner experience and the outer world, they think they are doing one thing, but really just flopping around. And the OP brings up a good point about having a sitter who is capable of manhandling the person involved. Nobody has heard reports from people under the influence of Salvia specifically talking about how during the tripp they wanted to be violent, and all nobody could do was pray that they had sat so still cause they would have ripped through nobody like tissue. Nobody no longer offers to take people to the Sage Lands anymore and would put anyone looking to speak to the Machine Elves to serious task before aiding them in such a journey. |

Re: Dmt smoking warning: Self harm
I wonder about how it would work to physically restrain somebody, just in case. I mean like tying then down in bed before they take off. Sounds extreme I know, but I think I read a tripreport over at Erowid where this guy tied himself to a fence to make sure he did not start to wander about while under
![]() Swim being a sitterless Salvia enthusiast, locks himself in his bedroom and hide the key in a semi-clever place, but still finds that he is unable to lift a finger while under anyways. He did however ponder the idea of tying a rope around his bed and lodge himself under it just in case... Anyway, would not like to be Evander Hollyfields sitter unless he was chained to something. Imagine trying to handle a 300lb boxer that just had a fit of panic

Re: Dmt smoking warning: Self harm
Swim can totally relate to the requirement of the sitter needing to restrain the user. Swim was once on acid with his friend with no sitter (bad idea in hindsight) and his friend started having a bad trip: thrashing about the place but unable to actually stand. He seemed to be "unconscious" in a strange way, as dmtHELLA described his friend in the OP. Anyway, swim was about of equal strength but managed to kind of sit on him. Swim's friend then was quiet and still but then suddenly hurled himself upright causing swim to fly across the room. Swim could really have done with another sitter to help as he was physically equal to his raging friend. In the end, swim managed to get his friend in a successful hold until the effects wore off... 4 hours later.
This important consideration can be applied to all psychedelics but it seems even more so for smoking DMT. Understandably, of course, as it is much more intense. |

Re: Dmt smoking warning: Self harm
from nobody's experience, most people trying to do things they aught not be, under the influence of DMT or Salvia, only need a gentle push or a body between them and a door. Sometimes, you may be able to distract them "hey come and look at this" or if punches are being thrown "hey this pillow is talking shit about you, better show it whose boss". Never had to actually hold someone down for more then a moment or two.
One way of dealing with a violent outburst would be to leave the room and lock them in. While this may seem callous and isn't going to fix them, after 15 minutes or so, when things have calmed down, you can explain it to them. Of course this will only work if the room can be locked, there's nothing to be trashed, and they aren't going to go for a window. Clearing the space properly is the best way to keep from the need to touch the other person. If the room is empty and they insist on walking around it banging into walls, at least there won't be sharp corners to contend with. If someone is REALLY freaking out, don't try to sit on them or tie them to a bed, if you don't know how to restrain a person you can cause injury and death. Best to call for backup. |

salvia is a funny one too
the first, and only time, my brother smoked salvia he woke up naked on his bed, naked, with all his lightbulbs unscrewed and broken on the floor. he doesnt remember anything. sometimes psychadelics can do scary shit so always be prepared |

Re: Dmt smoking warning: Self harm
Dr. Rick Strassman sometimes experienced these sorts of symptoms in his trials. They tended to occur most often at higher dosages.

Re: Dmt smoking warning: Self harm
swim cannot help but point out that 100mgs is a HUGE dose, way more than most would consume at once, especially as a first timer. swim would recommend more like 30-50mgs.
