Protest Against the Global Drug War - 11.03.2009
A new entry has been added to File Archive
Description: The United Nations held its High Level Meeting on drugs on March 11-12, 2009 in Vienna. HCLU and its allies, SSDP, INPUD, ENCOD and Youth R.I.S.E. organized a demonstration against the global war on drugs on March 11, at the entrance of the Vienna International Center, to call for a drug policy based on human rights and harm reduction. This is a great new "video of the month". What is the best way to find out when/where these protests are taking place? I would like to shake a few hands. Re: Protest Against the Global Drug War - 11.03.2009
Are the cages for impact or to stop them being attacked?....Anyway
I feel that legalisation is the only way to go here to stop the crime wave that drugs cause. Something like 85% of crimes are drug related. However, I say this with some reservations, because having experienced class A addiction first hand i know how evil drugs can be. By this i mean the things you do for them, what they turn you into. Is legalising it the best way forward, I don't know. Is it sending out the right message to people. The nature of some of these drugs is such that you always want more so would a prescription for pharmaceutical diamorphine satisfy an addict, and how on earth would you prescribe crack? Who would and wouldn't be eligible for prescription? The thing that annoys me most about this 'War On Drugs' is the hypocrisy around it all. What about alcohol? Slips nicely under the radar in these debates. Alcohol related illnesses outnumber drug related illnesses by a staggering amount yet it'll be ok for the delegates in this war to 'unwind' down the pub after the protest. Unwind to the point of oblivion. Alcohol makes a lot of people aggresive-fact. You never see someone smoke a joint and want to go out and smash someones face in-another fact. So why is cannabis still illegal? I'm definately not on the fence on that one. Deinately one of the least harmful of the more popular mind altering substances. Even the police give it back to you [usually] if it's 'found on your person'. I don't have the answer and i'm not even sure if there is one. Pass the Rizlas. |

Quote:
By prohibiting people from using drugs, we do not eliminate drugs. Ever. We raise their prices and put the profits in the hands of unscrupulous criminal syndicates. Without these profits such syndicates could not grow to the Empire levels they have achieved today. Lets face it. DRUGS ARE CHEAP. Prohibition is expensive. Society thinks that prohibition gives them a clean conscious because 'you shouldn't have been doing it in the first place.' Also, drug education should be a part of middle and high school education. Toxicology, addiction patterns, self-awareness training, physiological and psychological side effects. Accurate information regarding harmful effects. Furthermore, a much more detailed class offering harm reduction techniques, proper sterile syringe usage, overdose first aid, etc. Should be offered by universities at drug clinics, rehab facilities and other related sponsoring facilities. They should be pro bono where possible and covered by healthcare where not. When tbh, it's none of their fucking business what one does in the privacy of their own homes. If drugs were not expensive to the end user, the addicts wouldn't go broke and become reduced to theft, extortion, prostitution etc. Most such endeavours which are neatly provided and employed of the syndicate. In reality it's basically a hidden tax and a hidden corporation. Unaccountable to the public. Those responsible for handling such powerful substances Should be MONITORED for ethical practice. Users, to purchase, would register as a user. Discrimination against drug usage and addiction would be legislated against for employment. While people may still be terminated for being under the influence WHILE at work or when work performance is not satisfactory (Caused by drug usage or not should be irrelevant except in the case of injury). Where cotton swab tests for marijuana (Sensitive to 2-4 hrs after consuming marijuana) Drug users should be watched. For their own safety, the safety of the children and for the purpose of record keeping and statistical information gathering to better understand drugs and their influence on society. If someone commits a crime while high then perhaps they should also be charge with a new crime, irresponsible drug usage. This should apply to alcohol equally. I for one wouldnt be too paranoid to sign up for such a program and pay reasonable prices for marijuana, DXM, DMT, Salvia, and a few others that SWIM tells me are beneficial experiences. Quality control would be implemented for drug manufacturers. Such manufacturers would have their finances be a matter of public record (As all corporations should be anyway). Decriminalization is not legalization. This is legalization: Regulation. |

What! are you serious?
I got charged with possession of marijuana, December 16, 2008. I was 17 at the time now 18. My court date has been postponed 3 times it should be on June 18th now, but I don't know if it will be postponed again. I paid 2500 for lawyer, so I should be on the safe side. Does anyone know whats up with that? FormulaRed added 4 Minutes and 40 Seconds later... God im 18 and been stressed out about this shit for how many month now. Oh my friend, 18yrs old, got charge with possession of xanax and marijuana after me and got out of it before me... he got his personal family lawyer to get him out of it and he got nothing, but a couple of fines to pay. wtf?
