Panic attack/heart problems while high?
My pet giraffe has been smoking marijuana for about 2 years. In the beginning my giraffe had great experiences with weed. About one year after my giraffe's first use of marijuana, he ate special brownies and had an intense panic attack where he was sure he was going to die. The panic attack my giraffe had involved him twitching constantly (almost to a seizure-like state), difficulty breathing (even forgetting to breathe sometimes), extreme heart/chest pain, and complete fear and panic. My giraffe assumed he just had consumed too much, and made a note not to have brownies again. Another year or so down the road, my giraffe had a night of heavy baking and had another panic attack. Very similar, same pain/shaking/etc. The giraffe decided to continue to take it lighter next time he smoked. A few months later, my giraffe just took ONE hit from a bong and had a panic attack. The panic attack was the absolute worst of all of them. My giraffe kept telling me he was sure he was going to die, he said he saw a bright white light and heard high pitch opra-like singing. He said the pain in his chest was so unbearable and I watched him as he shook in a seizure like state. My giraffe told me he is never going to smoke marijuana again, but is really confused as to why these panic attacks started happening to him. Does anybody else have any pet giraffes who have had similar experiences? My poor giraffe is worried that he has heart problems and that this is not normal. I apologize on behalf of my giraffe for making me write such a long post.

Re: Panic attack/heart problems while high?
My giraffe has an eating disorder and sounds like what happens when giraffe doesn't eat enough before giraffe smokes. Also happens when giraffe is already psyched out or has had too much caffeine before hand.
Swim thinks it's probably a complete mental thing if it happened after one hit, though. |

Re: Panic attack/heart problems while high?
Heart problems are EXTREMELY unlikely while under the influence of cannabis, but possible.
However, considering your (OP's) age, I have to assume your friend SWIY is also about 18. Should this be the case, let's stick with 'impossible' to describe the risk of heart problems, unless SWIY has pre-existing coronary issues. Cannabinoids are a rather bizzare class of CNS depressants; quite atypically, they cause an increase in heart rate, but still cause vasodialation (drop in blood pressure). This means that the only risk of heavy cannabis use is fainting, because as heart rate increases with use, blood vessels continue to widen (making clotting within arterial walls virtually impossible). As for anxiety, there is a very simple remedy: have a drink or two. Cannabis can lower the amount of a neurotransmitter called GABA, which has naturally tranquilizing effects. Alcohol raises GABA levels, and I promise SWIY, this will kill anxiety or paranoia. However, too much alcohol should not be consumed with cannabis because of the extreme nausea and dizzyness that their synergistic effects can have. So stick to one or two drinks. |

Re: Panic attack/heart problems while high?
Swim has been an avid smoker for at least 25 year and up to a few years ago everything was fine. But, just like swiy swim got panic attacks from smoking minute amounts of weed. So swim quit and now just sticks to opiates.

Re: Panic attack/heart problems while high?
Only time SWIM ever had anything close to a Panic Attack was one time when he got high in Cancun... He was at the beach and imagined that there were several Ninja's sneaking around in the shadows... It was actually kind of awesome
![]() though kind of scary too. |

Re: Panic attack/heart problems while high?
Swim recommended this to another person in a different thread, but it applies here as well. The herb Rhodiola rosea is fantastic at stopping cannabis induced anxiety. If swiy is not able to have a drink due to age, Rhodiola rosea can be bought at a local store most likely, in capsule form.

I posted a simiar thread titled severe panic attacks from marijuana? And basically was told was nuts, that can't happen, stop doing drugs, you're exaggerating, etc.
I will admit I do have a panic disorder, among a few other probs but truly my probs after alot of reflection didn't start until Dr.'s had put swim on bunches of anti anxiety (benzos) and ant-psychotics and mood stabilizers, and opiates and muscle relaxers for some spinal injuries. So, not too be too nosy but is your giraffe on any of those? maybe there is a link? As to the drinking, I rarely touch it as it upsets my stomache so, I don't know about that except it never relaxed or helped me sleep. Good luck and for more advice or hateful comments you can read my thread. Blessed Be |
