Inducing vivid dreams
Swim has experimented with many entheogens, including salvia, mushrooms, dmt etc. Even some of the legal alternatives.
These have produced profound effects on swim and he wants to know if it would be possible to apply these effects to a dream? For example, a salvia tea before going to sleep? Kratom maybe? Swim has had amazing experiences whilst conscious, but wanted to experiment further into inducing vivid and psychedelic dreams. Swim is already capable of lucid dreaming, which is knowing your dreaming and being able to control the course the dream takes. the problem is, you can only do this to an extent. Swim has a large amount of 35x salvia which he would be willing to donate to this little experiment, but he wants to know if theres a chance of it working before he pours a vial into some tea! Would something like bonging salvia or hitting some dmt then after the initial effects have worn off, going to sleep, do anything? Like many people, after experimenting with these drugs swim has had an "afterglow" for a long period of time after, could this afterglow effect rem sleep? Does anybody have any methods which have worked for swiy? Open to any suggestions. |

Re: Inducing vivid dreams
Swim has experienced vivid, lucid dreams under these conditions:
1. Coming down from a relatively high dose of amphetamine salts (60-100 mg Adderall) 2. Smoked a generous amount of high quality marijuana (preferably indica) when coming down from Adderall. 3. Took recommended dose of OTC sleep aid (50 mg diphenhydramine = two Tylenol PMs) 4. Lay down to go to bed. Swim has repeated this experience countless times when cramming for exams. Each time has produced the same effect. When swim first lays down his mind is still racing pretty fast. Within minutes though swim cannot tell if his eyes are open or closed. His thoughts have turned into dreams but he is not yet sleeping...or maybe he is. For 1-2 hours swim is in this "trance-like" state where he is half sleeping half awake. His dreams are controlled by his thoughts which swim can still manipulate at this point. The dreams are extremely vivid and lucid. In this state swim has had sexual dreams and actually ejaculated without physically touching himself because the experience was so vivid. After about two hours the lucid aspect is lost, but swim continues to have extremely vivid dreams the rest of the night. Swim says he has never had a bad dream or a nightmare when doing this. Swim would also like to add that the quality of sleep is fairly poor, and should not be done multiple days in a row if possible. Swim has done this up to five nights in a row, and his body and mind were negatively affected to a great degree. |

Re: Inducing vivid dreams
calea zactechcichi. it works. swim use an oz of leave boiled down into an extract. then put in a gel cap and eat. it lets him remember his dreams as if it had happened in real time. only works for about 2 days if you use it everyday though.

Re: Inducing vivid dreams
Julian, that's awesome. What kind of cost are we talking on a per night basis?
Ganjahero, could you elaborate on swiys experience? Also more information on the substance would be good. The guy who manages my local headshop is pretty awesome, and he wings small sampler packs of kratom and cheap salvia swims way. Swim may make a blend and see if it has an effect. Perhaps adding different chemicals to see what breaks down the salvinorin the best. I also find that being woken up during a dream helps you remember it (I think this has been scientifically proven), so I may set a vibrating alarm for like 3am on my phone or something and whack the phone in a pocket. Anyway, I'm just pissing in the wind, any ideas are welcome. I'll be sure to report back for all to learn from. Keep the idea coming Edit: I just remembered, as a kid I used to get nightmares when I layed on my back. This may be something worth trying whilst I experiment. |

Re: Inducing vivid dreams
Well... SWIM is a regular weed smoker, so his surest way to get vivid dreams is to have a break. After the 2nd of the 3rd day, the dreams become noticeably vivider, and after the 4th or 5th they become almost real, which can be frightening if you have a nightmare. The only problem is the dreams become so vivid that its very hard to notice its a dream and became lucid.
coelho added 12 Minutes and 33 Seconds later... Ive already heard this from several people, and i also noticed my dreams are different, usually more lucid/vivid when im laying on my back... i also heard that sleeping with something covering the abdome (mainly the belly button region) for keeping it warm helps to have less (or none) nightmares when sleeping on ones back. I cant say that it works because i never have nightmares due sleeping on my back, be the belly covered or uncovered, but surely keeping the belly with a confortably warm temperature turn the dreams way more pleasurable... Re: Inducing vivid dreams
Hmm, but then again, too warm and your dreams could turn into something more sinister, fire and brimstone, burnt alive? lol.
Swim has tried kratom tea before going to bed, swim had a dream, but it was unlikely due to the kratom. Swim also woke up in the middle of the night to throw up... Swim remembers no dreams after drinking alcohol or smoking weed. Swim has smoked various legal substances, including product from legalbuds, and it has helped swim to remember his dreams a little better. But swims friend reports not having a dream since he started smoking it. SO its different for different people. In the next week or so, swim is going to try salvia tincture before going to bed. This is sure to produce effects, is it not? |

I also remembered that a good technique for remembering better and/or having lucid/vivid dreams is to sleep when you arent tired... like after having lunch, or going back to sleep some time after waking up (like half/one hour)... sleeping when one isnt tired ensures a less deep sleep, with more dreams. |

Re: Inducing vivid dreams
SWIM is on day 6 of a run of daily kratom use and is experiencing increasingly long, complex, surreal, and emotionally intense dreams. SWIM normally has a very active dream life and remembers a fair deal of his dreams, but these dreams are dramatically different from usual. While this is generally a very positive thing as SWIM loves dreaming and has had some dreams he will cherish for a long time during this period, he is experiencing more 'nightmare' type dreams than usual, to the point that last nights dreams were so emotionally intense that he felt shell shocked for the first half of the day. While every substance effects SWIMs dreaming to some degree, kratom is the only substance to increase dream recall and general intensity on a completely consistent basis. Highly recommended for those looking to explore the dream world deeper. Also note that while the dream enhancing effects are cumulative, SWIM can't advise strongly enough against using kratom more than 2-3 times a month. Don't forget that while its less physically addictive, its just as psychologically addictive as other opiates of equivalent strength. Don't fall prey to its siren song.
FYI: SWIM takes the kratom 4-6 hours before he intends to sleep. He browses the web and ties up loose ends for the first 2-3 hours until the effects start peaking, then he sits in the dark and nods until the peak starts subsiding, at which time he lays down and drifts off. Never fails to heighten dreams. |

Re: Inducing vivid dreams
Dream enhancers:
Vitamin B6 (single OTC dose is good, but 5-10 times that dose is intense. don't repeat that dose more than two nights in a row and not more than three nights a week because excess B6 over time does crazy bad stuff to nervous system), colors dreams Valerian, strengthens and gives dreams a crazy edge Melatonin, strengthens dreams and occasionally causes scary dreams Syrian Rue/Caapi (no psychotria, just maoi), strengthens dreams Kava Kava, strengthens dreams Try waking up a couple hours before intended wake up time, then walk around and splash cold water on the face. Go back to bed and just see what happens! Save some money, the calea zachetechichi doesn't work for many people and that ubulawu stuff didn't work for my friend. The list above is very reliable and works on most people. One CAN combine items on the above list while remembering not to do the vitamin B6 too often. |

Re: Inducing vivid dreams
I know this is a little old, but swim has heard that keeping nightshade plants (namely belladonna, but should work with others) in ones room induces extremely vivid dreams.

Re: Inducing vivid dreams
Speaking of illegal substances that can alter dreams, SWIM think that a little dose of LSD before bed can do the trick(very low dose, like 15-25 ug, if you wanna go to bed). LSD raise acethylcoline level. Every drugs that raise acethylcoline has an impact on dreaming. Also DXM has impact on dreaming for the same reason.
SWIM think also MDMA can affect dreaming because of his impact on serotonin. But the best of the best for vivid/lucid dreaming is Galantamine. This substance lower acetilcholine breakdown and stimulate at the same time nicotinic and muscarinic receptors. Galantamine + a source of choline is the recipe for the best vivid and lucid dreams. Nate81 has wrote a good list of good lucid aids, other substances in various order are 5-htp, alpha gpc, yohimibine, huperzine-a, nicotine (try a nicotine patch before bed, some crazy dreams). Hope this help |

Re: Inducing vivid dreams
I believe that you dream during the REM (rapid eye movement) stage of sleep. This occurs very late in the sleep cycle, and for me I only dream in the early mornings after I wake and go back to bed.
I do not suggest trying to wake at 3 AM but instead offer a small amount of advice. Wake up two hours early then you require for a full nights sleep. Take whatever aid or chemical you desire to try and go back to bed. This could help time the dreams when the chemicals are at optimum concentration in the body as well as help the dreamer remember the events. |

Re: Inducing vivid dreams
A few weeks ago i started trying out BWgen. Its a brainwave generator.
Following a tutorial i found online i put together a 3 hour wav which i converted to mp3 (took ages to convert, 2gb file). I set it to start at -2hz for 15 minutes, then gradually go up to 3hz (the frequency experienced during REM sleep), whacked it on my Zune and just as i felt myself nodding off, pressed play, its 15 minutes of total silence then another 20 before it reaches its terminal frequency. I have experimented with various frequencies as well as rapidly changing frequencies, to make the brain work a little harder during REM, this makes the brain more active, and in my experience, more likely to produce dreams. It definately works, without a doubt, but it hasnt been reliable, remember my dreams perhaps about 1/3rd of the time. Maybe less. Im experimenting with have a sudden, sharp high frequency sound 3 hours before im scheduled to wake up. It is converting at the moment. Hopefully if this works, i will have the vivid dreams, then remember them very easily, as i will be woken up by the sudden sharp frequency. Of course, its literally half a second long (the high frequency), so i wont be awake when its still playing, as that could be pretty damn scary. I'll report back with any results, in the mean time, i recomend trying bwgen.

Re: Inducing vivid dreams
SWIM's found that poppy pod tea induces crazy, vivid, easily remembered dreams for him. Other sedatives (benzos, sleeping pills, antihistamines) put him so far under he can't remember anything. Weed is good while he's laying in bed awake, but hasn't had particularly vivid dreams from it.
SWIM's coworker said that when he was trying to stop smoking (cigarettes), he tried using a nicotine patch. He told SWIM that it gave him the craziest dreams in his life, and that they were so powerful that he had to discontinue using the patch after two days. He also told SWIM that the literature accompanying the nicotine patch mentioned vivid dreams, so SWIM thinks it might be worthwhile for SWIY to look into this ![]() |

Re: Inducing vivid dreams
Here's something interesting a camel told me on the bus yesterday:
"One of the side effects of marijuana is that it suppresses REM sleep. I've been smoking the stuff for a while and when constantly using it I find it hard to remember any dreams at all. But on the flipside, as soon as you lay off the weed you get what's called REM-rebound, meaning most of your time sleeping will be in the REM state and you'll have a ton of very vivid dreams, it's very easy for me to become lucid in these dreams. Also I've read even if you're not a heavy smoker or not a smoker at all you can still smoke a joint around midday and later at night when the effects have totally worn off you'll get the REM-rebound. I'd recommend giving that a try if you can get your hands on some of the good stuff." |

Re: Inducing vivid dreams
SWIM took some Valerian Root for the first time last night, and it gave him LOTS extremely vivid dreams last night
![]() He took around 2000mg (pill form, not concentrated) at 7:30PM. He took them on an empty stomach, and they upset it slightly until he ate dinner. Once he ate, however, the nausea went away and SWIM spent the rest of the night in a subtle state of relaxed euphoria. This feeling was consistent until around 12:30AM, when he took another 1000mg. Within an hour (SWIMs approximation) he was in a very comfortable state of profound relaxation and sleepiness. It was at this point that he went to bed, and for the few minutes he remained awake, he greatly enjoyed the simple feeling of having his eyes closed. Interestingly enough, although SWIM had very vivid dreams and presumably deep sleep, he also woke up several times during the night and early morning. Each time he did, it seemed to SWIM that he had been sleeping for much longer. Also, when he ultimately woke up this morning, he had a slight histamine rash on his hands. This may have been an allergic reaction, however this has happened to SWIM a few times before without him taking anything before bed. Either way, the rash subsided quickly after SWIM stopped scratching it ![]() Thus, it is with confidence that SWIM recommends valerian root for inducing vivid dreams. Out of all the other suggestions, it is the easiest, cheapest, and most legal way to get the aforementioned effect. If valerian alone doesn't do the trick, there are other natural herbs SWIY can try taking with it, most notably Skullcap, Kava Kava, and 5-HTP. There are a few other threads on here that discuss these combinations, and SWIM suggests looking into them as he has not yet combined any of them (they are, however, rather nice by themselves ).Happy dreaming! |

Re: Inducing vivid dreams
Providing a specific dollar amount would be against the rules. Moreover, the costs would vary depending on how much swiy needs to pay to obtain said drugs. However, the drugs that swim mentioned (Adderall, marijuana, Tylenol PM) are relatively cheap and easily obtained, in swim's opinion anyway.

Re: Inducing vivid dreams
There is a great substance for inducing sleep! It is an antidepressant Amitriptylin, called Saroten. SWIM takes 50mg of Saroten (Amitriptylin), goes to sleep, and has real dreams. Its not drug-induced fake dream states, its real sleep and real dreams.
The dreams are very vivid and you remember them. SWIM can ALWAYS get to the dream state with Saroten, even after he is used to it. SWIM used to dream from 25-50mg when he started taking it, wich is a very very low dose. Now SWIM has used it for some months at 25mg per night and doesnt get the "dream effect" from that dose. But all SWIM has to do is take a couple more pills, 75mg total, and SWIM gets very sleepy and has vivid dreams again. (medicinal dose for treating depression is 150-200mg daily) Saroten is very good, SWIM had never heard of it before he was prescribed it for chronic nervepain. Yet many people wonder about dream inducing substances, but nobody knows about Amitriptylin! Its good, works at very low doses and has no sideeffects other than tiredness the next morning. |

Re: Inducing vivid dreams
Swims recently cut down on his weed consumption (from now on, friday is high day
lol)During the week long period of abstinence swim encountered some crazy dreams. For example, swim dreamt he was taking a leak behind the counter at his local headshop, and someone left the shop, and the co owner chased after him, and the guy who left the shop stabbed him in the eye with a huge rake he somehow pulled out of his pocket, then the guy took the rake out of his ee and stabbed the other guy back. Then swim left the shop, and was suddenly in a huge park with short cut grass and very vivid colors (almost acid trip-like color enhancement) then someone ran at swim and swim fell onto his back, and woke up :/ Very odd. So this ties in with a previous posters point about weed suppress's rem sleep. During abstinence, its like swims mind was trying to mae up for all the dreamless nights in one crazy ass dream, lol. |

Re: Inducing vivid dreams
Yes, definitely quitting weed (or alcohol) habits, cause rem rebound. I am very sure that even quit normal smoking alter dreaming... Nicotine is an acethylcoline simil substance, this means that,in a similar way to lsd with serotonine, it bound with acethilcoline receptors in the brain making the brain thinking that there is much acethilcoline and making you have dreams in which awareness is great. But on the other and, a great exposition of these receptors to nicotine, de-sensibilize them, so the number of good dreams in the long period go down. I think quitting smoking reverse this.

Re: Inducing vivid dreams
Thanks swiArokas for the information.
Swim actually had a very strange dream last night. Swim hadnt smoked weed yesterday, but had the day before. Swim dreamt for some reason everyone had to pile onto boats and leave the land, and one of swims enemies in real life got to board the boat full of hot girls, and swim was pissed, so he got his little rubber dinghy and rowed out to the big hot girl filled boat and the girls were very...welcoming..shall we say.. And it also involved president regan throwing up on the beach :/ During this swim was also laying on his back in his sleep, something he has always found when he was a small child gives him nightmares. Which is odd. I think that settles it, drug abstinence helps dreams. No doubt about it. |

Re: Inducing vivid dreams
Swim has a very strange relationship with dreams at the moment. For the last few years swim very rarely dreamed or was almost completely unable to remember his dreams, swim put this down to his regular cannabis use. But in the last few months swims has been having dreams like he has never had before - swim is still smoking cannabis by the way just a less but still everyday right before bed.
Swims dreams are so vivid and real that its nearly impossible to distinguish them from normal reality, if swim does manage to become lucid in these dreams however and he does something extreme like sky diving or leaping from a height the rush/euphoria he experiences is amazing. Swim has felt more intense/cleaner euphoria from dreams in the last few weeks that he has probably had from drugs in long time , if not even ever. Also if swim has an unsettling dream it can effect him for negatively when he wakes up, and it can take up to a few days to get his head straightened out. Swim does not have a clue why his dreams have gotten so intense. Also this happens almost every night without fail. |
