Re: Nightmares from codeine ?!

Nope, swim hasn't had any nightmares after taking codeine (or at all for a long time), do notice SWIM can be a little bit more depressed in the days afterwards though.

Re: Nightmares from codeine ?!

SWIM doesn't have nightmares with codeine but dreams which seem to be really realistic and which last only 2/3 minutes each.
SWIM thinks she has some hearing hallucinations but she isn't sure. It seems to her someone speaks really close to her ears. It's really strange.

Re: Nightmares from codeine ?!

SWIM forgot to say but the reason he mentioned the depression is that is mainly at night he feels it, when trying to fall asleep, but SWIM hasn't had any dreams after codeine.

Re: Nightmares from codeine ?!

Nightmares from codeine are a somewhat common side effect.

Quote:
Codeine can cause a number of side effects. It affects different people in different ways. Although not a common side effect, nightmares and unusual dreams are a known side effect of codeine. These may be associated with restlessness, and poor sleep. This should resolve upon discontinuing the medication

Re: Nightmares from codeine ?!

Ah yes actually! I once had some prescribed codeine for somethin or another and I took some before bed. A couple hours later I woke up from an absolutely freaky dream at like 4am, and when I awoke I felt all weird and, heh, doped up.

Question Re: Nightmares from codeine ?!

swim broke their ankle a couple of weeks ago and received oxycodone 5/325 tablets. swim was falling asleep during the first couple of nights after the injury and when almost asleep, heard a soft voice which sounded like it came from the pillow from behind the left ear. Really weird and sorta freaky..

swim has had other bad accidents and had simliar medicine before in the past but didn't have the voice happen.

Just a thought... Does swim happen to live in a high altitude area? swim was on a trip in western usa when the accident occured and only had the voice occur at high elevation

SWIM lives ~ 1000m above sea level and he hasn't experienced anything like that.

Re: Nightmares from codeine ?!

Fascinating. My rabbit had something similar happen last night.

He fell asleep somewhere around 4am (pathetic, I know)... then he seemingly drifted in and out of reality/consciousness for at least two hours. He swore he was talking to someone on the phone, but when he awoke around 6am to see his "calls list" he hadn't been talking to anyone.

My rabbit is intrigued by this phenomenon and hopes he will experience it again, even if it means he feels tired and lethargic from lack of sleep the following day.

Hamburglar added 1 Minutes and 6 Seconds later...

FWIW, this rabbit lives about 15 feet from sea level....

Hamburglar added 1 Minutes and 21 Seconds later...

Also, SWIY is familiar with the area that the OP is from... and he happens to actually live *below* sea level.... lol.

Re: Nightmares from codeine ?!

SWIM hasn't slept while still high on Codeine for a while, he'd usually sleep about an hour after his dose wore off. Never got any nightmares then (or any dreams either)

In w/d on the other hand, that's when SWIM gets mega-insomnia along with those crazy dreams that last about 2-3 minutes long. They're not necessarily scary, it's just they're ultra-realistic. They even feel more real than reality, sometimes

Unfortunately SWIM always wakes up after those dreams.
