Bongs - My soon to be creepy new bong

SWIM told me this story and asked me to pass it on,

"So i made what will soon be my favorite bong today. I made it out of red clay and will probably fire it soon then glaze it with some non lead gaze. I started out with a basic hollow 1.5 foot clay cylinder with a good base to keep it upright. I then made a plaster cast of my face which i then used to make a clay mold. Next I cut out the mouth on the face so that it's open and attached it to the side of the cylinder near the bottom. from there i cut a hole in the cylinder inside the mouth and put a hollow curled tongue through it which acts as the pipe. the tongue is attached to the cylinder and extends through the mouth so that it looks like the face is sticking out its tongue and has something flaming on it. After this i made a second face mold and attached it a bit higher up on the cylinder on teh opposite side also with an open mouth. I put a carb hole inside this second mouth so that if you want to cover it you just put your hand over the mouth as though you were silencing it. to top it off i made a final mold of the mouth and placed it at the top with a tongue sticking out and extending down the chin. to smoke out of it you put your stuff in the curled tongue on the lower face, cover the mouth on the upper face, and draw through the mouth at the top. its extremely creepy looking but awesome."

Then SWIM asked,

I need some help though, how should i glaze it and what should i name it? i cant decide. its currently drying until it can be fired. its just plain red clay right now but i want to color it something cool. I Dont have a picture of it yet but i will take one tomorrow and post it for those of you who dont understand. i realize my description was rather convoluted but i did the best i could. to recap, its a cylinder with two faces, one on bottom with a tongue for a pipe, and one on top with a carb hole in the mouth. there is a mouth on top with a tongue extending down the chin that you breathe through.

tell me if you like the idea! if you have a better idea that involves the face mold let me know and i might make it.

I don't know enough about clay and glazing and what not to give SWIY my opinion, but it's really cool that SWIY is making his own smoking equipment.

If I smoked pot, it would be cool to create my own piece, if I was creative enough and had the skill and knowledge required of course...

Well thank you! Should be getting fired this week and then Swim will glaze it and hopefuly by next weekend it will get glaze fired. unfortunately swim does not have the ability to fire at any time or else it would be done by now.

As of now it's name will be The Face of God because Swim is rather conceited and thought it would be funny.

Swim's only concern right now is that it will be recognized as a bong and will not be fired. not too worried though. should be cool. once its fired swim will take more pictures and i'll post em.

swim thinks the only thing that makes it look suspicious is the stick in the mouth... but theres not much to do about that?

swim thinks SWIY should smooth out the clay with water in some areas... or could SWIY can sand it after the first fire?

swim also thinks the mouth piece could be a bit hard to use... but then again SWIY does have to make it look less bongsy(lol...???)

Awesome idea SWIM wishes SWIM could make a clay bong.

unfortunately Swim has given me some bad news. he finished it up and attempted to fire it only to have the bottom and the tongue explode making it unuseable. he remade it but again the same thing happened. there's not much he could have done about it, it was just bad luck. the problem is that he is now unable to make a third one as the man firing them has refused to fire another one because he sees it as a waste of clay.

Swim plans on coming up with another cool design soon though.

SWIM was thinking a cool Idea would be just one head upside down... put the tabacco in the nose... and use the neck to inhale. rush in the ear, or even the other nostril?

Everyone seems to have agreed that it was a really good idea, though, so Cowboy would suggest that SWIY maybe do some more research on clay and its properties before attempting to make something again. Also smooth it out a little more. It's a shame that SWIY was not able to finish the piece; Cowboy feels that it's very artistic/creative and would serve a very practical purpose at the same time. Sometimes when Cowboy goes to his favourite coffee shop, he uses his favourite bong they have for the the customers, which is made of ceramic and shaped like a cobra, painted and glazed very nicely. Cowboy would like to see more bongs like this, made out of unconventional shapes as opposed to the usual round bubble at the bottom and straight neck. Boring.

Swim is happy that so many people liked his idea. he really wishes he could remake it. it might be a while though. as of now his two chances will be to take a college ceramics class at some point, or if he gets lucky, one of his friends says he has an aunt with a kiln and he's thinking of buying a wheel. if that works out swim will definitely reattempt this. he also likes the idea with the single face being used for the whole thing. he has the face mold sitting at home waiting to be used. it just might be a while.

he doesn't think it was the teacher sabotaging it. he saw where he had left air bubbles and it exploded. it was simply impossible to tell that they were there beforehand due to the nature of the process.

Swim also made what would have been a really cool pipe in the shape of a snake but it disappeared. he managed to get it fired and then kind of forgot about it. a few weeks later he remembered and glazed it so it should have turned out really cool looking, but it never returned from the glaze firing. he knows that it wasn't recognized by the teacher as it had been sitting in the room for a few weeks. he suspects it was either taken by another stoner, or it stuck to the kiln when the glaze dried and broke.
