GHB and alcoholism

Swim saw an interesting article in a local free paper the other day regarding a doctor who theorises that alcoholism is related (at least in some cases) to a lack of naturally occuring ghb in the brain. Apparently mood is very dependent on the interaction between ghb and a certain GABA receptor. This would explain why some people with alchohol related problems find ghb useful in stopping drinking. The doctors solution (he was alcoholic himself) was to use another perscription drug , not usually used to treat alcoholism. This seemed to also stimulate the GABA receptors in the same way ghb did! The article didn't mention if this drug had any ghb like side effects though!
