Dude, Pharmacology is a good feild to explore if you are interested in drugs. Also for some good reading and great info on drugs from alchohol to ecstacy check out the book "Buzzed" its a non biased straight up fact based book written by a bunch of doctors from the duke university medical center. its not your typical drug book, it dosent say use or dont use its philosophy is "Just say Know" and it has a wealth of information.

Well .. it really depends what you're interested in learning about mind altering substances.
If you're interested in experiencing a variety of them you need a good hook-up, not a career direction.  But really - you could become a brain imaging lab tech (only a couple years in college) and apply for work with people who study drugs. A huge bonus is you'd make big bucks! They're in huge demand right now I think.

Here's what I do when I'm bored...
I own the PDR (phisicians desk reference), pill book, etc... Go to a website where people are giving imprint codes to find out what pills are what, and help them get the info they need. Just do it slightly different. Go to a psycadelic substance forum (like this one) and search for answers for people over the net! Kills time and is fun if you've got insomnia like me!

I've heard that being a pharmacist in the US is not much of a cool job. You basically have to learn everything that a pre-med student has to learn and then at the end you are stuck in some shitty job at CVS where you have basically no authority or control over your situation. I'm sure that this is not everyone's experience and that there are other options out there for pharmacy professionals, but just being the person who prepares the prescriptions is not really very fun.

You can get hold of very tiny amounts of drugs, that's my experience. Some time ago, a guy who worked at the lab i'm working at, let's call him swim,got hold of 100 to 500 grammes (nowone knows for sure untill today...) of pure cocaine, but this is something you will only manage to do once in a lifetime. Normally the chemicals you are working with as a pharmacologist are heavily watched so you'd have to be asenior researcher or something to get hold of quantative amounts of drugs.

Best job in the world... to own a nice coffe shop in Amsterdam.
 Shulgin's job sound pretty cool too. You get to try [in huis words] "substances that have never existed before in the universe". Not really something you could steal from a regular highschool .

Yep, I was thinking more on the grounds of a nice rasta place, grow
some good old dread locks and have a nice green house in the back. Small place, easy to run, get a nice dutch girl. Keeping it simple. Though joemomma's idea does sound good, I like to keep it chilling.

if you are of the extremely laid back type, yet have a knack for talking to people, try working graveyard at a 24hr convenience store.... minimum wage, but you eat well (day old donuts, ect),and getto sit back in the boss's little back room with the surviellance monitors!
