Trends Drug dealers 'switching from cocaine to fake Viagra'

Drugs gangs are switching from selling cocaine to a fake version of the sex pill Viagra attracted by the lure of higher profit margins

Making up counterfeit anti-impotence pills can be as much as 2,000 times more profitable than dealing in hard drugs, according to one expert.

With millions of potential buyers available on the internet, the trade is also less risky for gangsters.

But there were warnings that the fake blue pills, often made from a cocktail of prescription medicines, can be highly dangerous for users.

Last months a report in Singapore highlighted that four men died and three were left in comas in just five months after taking counterfeit impotence drugs.

Jim Thomson, founder of the European Alliance for Access to Safe Medicines (EAASM), said that the prospect of high profits was now attracting criminals into the fake Viagra market.

"You can buy a kilo of the active ingredient of Viagra on a website for about £33 and you can make a lot of tablets from a kilo," he was quoted as telling the Daily Star.

"The margin is about 2,000 times more profitable than cocaine."

He went on: "If you bought a kilo of cocaine in Bogotá you would be lucky to get out alive, if you were caught you would go to jail for a very long time.

"With the pills you would be very unlucky to get more than three years if you got caught."

But he said the bogus pills were "illegal in every way" and potentially dangerous.

Nobody's met some folks who've played with Viagra, none of them recommend it. The erections were borderline painful, lasted an uncomfortably long time (i.e. the rest of the body was exhausted, their partner just as beat), the sex never seemed enough, over all unsatisfying. Afterward it took between a week and a month to achieve normal erections, which would lead to all sorts of uncomfortable questions and issues from their partners.

And that was with real pills from proper pharmacies in the US. Lord knows what the folks mentioned above are selling.

viagra is not that bad... SWIm allways took about 20mg SWIm cut the 100mg tabs in pieces.. and sometimes had a light head ache but SWIm always had fun with his girls for several hours

Lamb: Those legal "Viagra alternatives" are untested, unregulated, snake-oil. Enzyte was one of the first ones to hit the market and they went down like a rock in the court system

Do not take untested drugs from dubious sources, especially when those sources claim to be selling "safe alternatives". Shit like this is very counter productive to the drug communities efforts towards legalization. We need to make sure that drug manufacturers uphold high standards of safety and honesty or we'll be putting our selves at risk in the future.

Consider what's happened with tobacco for the past century with unlabeled additives, look what happened to Spice with their unlabeled chemicals. These people are unscrupulous con men and should be treated as such.

Swim got a script for Cialis some time around two years ago. Swim is in his twenties and didn't really have any problems functioning with the exception of SSRI related inability to climax. The pills did nothing for swim. His girl snorted a part of one and had a severely scary acid flashback. These are not fun drugs, at least not for people Swim's age.

This is completely off topic. But Papel is half right. It really isn't necessary to use swim when just talking about hypothetical situations or giving opinions. The self-incrimination rule only applies to any kind of substance/medication use or illegal activities of any kind.
