5mgs of Ritalin

Will 5mgs of ritalin give SWIM an extra, yet subtle, "push" when doing some intensive studying? Will it even be noticeable? How much of a difference (if any) would 10mgs make?

Thanks in advance.

Re: 5mgs of Ritalin

swim would say swiy wont really feel any effects from 5mg. 10mg may be a threshhold dose for swiy. as a subtle study 15mg would be appropriate.

Re: 5mgs of Ritalin

Thanks for the response.

Let's say IF 10mgs is a threshold dose for SWIM, what effects would one expect at that dosage? Such as, would someone get distracted because of too much energy? Would someone still be able to stay focused and concentrate? SWIM doesn't want to sound naive, SWIM just has no knowledge or experience with this substance. Overall, could you say 10mgs is usually a very well-tolerated dose?

Orally, yes. 10mg will not do much except increase concentration and perhaps induce insomnia the first time. Becoming distracted is less likely.

Re: 5mgs of Ritalin

Yeah, SWIY won't feel any of the effects SWIM would look for in a ritalin dose. SWIM likes the euphoria that is present within the first 10-15 mins.

Re: 5mgs of Ritalin

Interesting.

Not to keep prying, but SWIM's curiousity is running. What does 15mgs feel like? Taken orally of course. On some weekends, SWIM's wife wants to go out and have fun, but SWIM's too damn tired. Would 15mgs cause SWIM to wake up enough to actually feel like going out?

Today around 5pm, SWIM was tired like hell and had to get some work done, so SWIM took 5mgs. An hour later... SWIM was still tired like hell. It simply did nothing. Maybe taking 5mgs is just wasting it. SWIM is just afraid of taking too much because SWIM doesn't want to feel "too amped".. like in a frightening sort of way. SWIM did take XTC for many years. During that time, SWIM is sure he had some pills with meth from time to time. But, that feeling of energy was not frightening, it was good. Like eurphoric. Unlike coffee for example. Although SWIM's tolerance for caffeine is quite large, if someone were to take too much caffeine, the energetic side effects would be "unpleasant". Therefore, would taking too much Ritalin (10-20mgs) create the "unpleasant" energy or the "euphoric" energy?

Re: 5mgs of Ritalin

hi there

don't know if it's naughty to open an old thread like this but my dog would really like to benefit from your friend's experiences.

my dog was wondering what the results of your friend's attempts were? My dog is trying to find a good study dosage and isn't feeling any different. This is what the dog took (orally):

11am toast and 10mg
12.40 10mg
14.40 10mg

It's now 15.00 and the dog is still too stupid to write her essay. she would really like to know what your friend's experiences were, did he find an effective dose in the end?

any advice would be much appreciated x x

Re: 5mgs of Ritalin

that's what all the other swims seem to be saying, but my dog has to make it sustainable over 6 ish weeks to write 18,500 words in total. would snorting lead to burn out or addiction or bad side effects sooner? my dog was tempted to put it up his nose but i said no, don't do that unless you can't achieve anything orally. my dog's going to try 20mg on empty stomach, then if nothing happens, 30mg on empty. and in retrospect my dog did say that he did feel something but it was very sublte, especially since he was not in an environment condusive to study at the time.

Re: 5mgs of Ritalin

5 mgs and a cup of cofee should help induce some productivity, but it won't do anything as far as buzz, unless SWY is tiny, like 40 kilos or something.

gmeziscool2354 added 3 Minutes and 14 Seconds later...

snorting does tend to bring on the negatives much quicker, so for studying it isn't advised, plus most methylphenidate preps have tones of fillers and binders, snoring isn't too pleasant on rits under 20 mg's in SWIM's opinion. plugging tho, whoa, my tried the back door thread http://www.drugs-forum.com/forum/showthread.php?t=81231

but this is getting off topic

Re: 5mgs of Ritalin

Experiences vary enormously between people, at least they do between people prescribed it. I'm prescribed 5mg 3 times a day and don't notice a push if by 'push' you mean motivation. Some people do report this though, but this effect is considered an aspect of initial euphoria (a side effect) and usually fades after a few days or weeks even when present, as the brain adjusts to accommodate those effects of the med that it doesn't need.*

*If swiy doesn't have ADHD, narcolepsy or other conditions treated by it, EVERY effect will be such an effect, so theoretically they could expect to build a tolerance to every effect more easily than someone with the relevant chemical imbalances. This is speculation on my part however, as there are no studies I'm aware of on the effects it has on people who aren't diagnosed.

Even among the studied samples of people diagnosed with ADHD, only 70-80% experience significant benefits from Ritalin. Some have horrible side effects even at low doses, and others feel no different at all. The same is true of Adderall and every other ADHD drug, hence there are so many; just like anti-depressants, they don't all work for everyone. It really shouldn't come as any surprise that people who aren't diagnosed don't always notice anything either.
