Adderall induced eye complications

SWIM's first addy binge was a summer ago. Towards the end of the 5 month binge SWIM's left eye was dry as all heck! Just the left one though. SWIM wears contacts too and was unable to wear a contact in the left eye due to it being incredibly dry.

SWIM is scripted addy and is taking it not to binge and is taking it, by all means, at a therapeutic dose and has been for a month now. The eye thing is happening again now. The eye gets all dried out, no contacts, and is now twitching. The twitching isn't visible, but SWIM can feel it.

Any similar stories? This isn't glaucoma, is it?

Whether or not there's any correlation SWIY should see an eye doctor ASAP. SWIM, for one, would probably choose to give up all other senses before his vision!

SWIM does notice that sometimes while on Adderall his vision gets somewhat blurry, However SWIM is going to agree with the person above me and say go see a Doctor. The sooner the better.

Re: Adderall induced eye complications

An acquaintance of SWIM's got extreme dry-eye from Dexedrine about a year ago. Eye drops were not helping. It was so bad that SWIM's acquaintance was having problems with the quality of vision as well as some other issues that SWIM cannot remember offhand.

SWIM's acquaintance went to the optometrist, who immediately started asking questions about the amount of sleep he was getting. SWIM's acquaintance told the optometrist that he worked full-time and went to school full-time and was stressed about a lot of personal issues, so he wasn't able to get much sleep.

The optometrist prescribed two weeks' worth of Ativan so that SWIM's acquaintance could calm down and get some rest. He also ordered SWIM's acquaintance to take the contacts out and wear glasses for two weeks, and recommended some expensive OTC eye drops. SWIM's acquaintance took the doctor's advice, started sleeping more, and was fine by the follow-up visit two weeks later.

The moral of the story is that it wasn't anything in the Dexedrine specifically that was causing eye problems -- it was just lack of sleep. The body repairs itself during sleep and specifically, the eyes get a chance to hydrate and rest. However, SWIM agrees that a visit to the optometrist is reasonable if SWIY has any concerns whatsoever about glaucoma.

thank you much! SWIM's gonna' try and adjust his days out to meet standards of quality sleep. SWIM popped 50mg diphenhydramine last night and today had no terrible effects with his eye. He's been thinking all day it must have at least something to do with sleep.

Re: Adderall induced eye complications

Sounds like dry eye. Amphetamines dry out the other mucous membranes...so why not the eyes? Plus swimmers tend not to blink as much on it. Swim would just get some Rohto V Cool eyedrops and try to get more sleep. Change contact lenses more, re-wet them more, don't wear them as often if possible(swim feels if it's not. He's so blind without his contacts.), etc.
