Cocaethylene ( cocaine and alcohol toxicity)

a letter found on the ground today read "

i was in the same f*cked-up situation as your friends were, 6 months ago. i believe my coke was laced with something else, or just cut bad. did some coke one night and my heart just went racing, probably because i also drank some alcohol and the combination of coke and alcohol (cocaethylene) sent my heart in to overdrive. went to the hospital to get it checked out, nothing serious was found, but i had recurrent heart pains and anxiety for a loong time.. after that incident, never looked back on doing blow, or drugs for that matter.

but its good if you get it checked out by a doctor, they could run some tests and determine what's wrong or been bothering your friends.. the longer you wait it out, the worse they might get."

should i burn this letter ?

Cocathylene ( cocaine and alcohol)

Cocaethylene is the toxic combination of cocaine and alcohol... your body makes this toxic, life threatening combination with no help from you... Just drink alcohol and get high for days... and we won't be picking out a tux for your wedding, but for your funeral.

Taken in combination, the two drugs are converted by the body to cocaethylene.

Cocaethylene has a longer duration of action in the brain and is more toxic than either drug alone.

While more research needs to be done, it is noteworthy that the mixture of cocaine and alcohol is the most common two-drug combination that results in drug-related death.

Guess I now know how I'm going when the spirit horse calls me.

I just don't enjoy one, without the other. I suppose the "longer duration" explanation might have something to do with it. I recall I used to love getting drunk before I started really enjoying white. Now, unless the whole process gets started by drinking way too much good wine at dinner, there just doesn't seem to be much sense or fun boozing it up without powdered fun to hasten the ride along.

coke and booze

So, I've pretty much always combined coke and booze with good results, hadn't done coke alone for a long time and remembered it as not being very enjoyable. Well, a few days ago I happened to have a quarter gram of primo snow left over, and used it while sober (2 big lines half an hour apart); thing is, it made me feel ok for a bit, and then nauseous, and mostly just shitty, I definitely felt the stimulation effect but I also felt anxiety and didn't really feel like doing anything at all. However, normally if I drink together with coke, I feel very euphoric. Just wondering if anyone else has this same reaction to coke when sober/drinking?

Wednesday nights, my friend and I go to get drunk at Outback Steakhouse (where I work)...I'm a major lightweight when it comes to drinking...but I always noticed, if I do a line or whatever, I sober up from my drinking. That's just me...

Same thing happened to me to. I used to do it mostly on hard alcohol and it gave me anxiety and made me fell shitty when I was sober. I stoped drinking alot ( Started blacking out alot) and it went back to the normal feeling.

CABS205,

That's a good place to get beer, best place around
here, anyway.

IMO, lines are best after you've tied on a good beer
buzz, but only 1 or 2 because after that it turns into a
binge.Edited by: woodman

I can relate. Lines when your sober are kinda weird only cuz 99% of the time I'm used to the feeling of tweaking when I've been drinking. The two seem to go hand in hand. I also know not to overdo either one---cocaethylene issue (experienced it, not fun). So now I just do both until I get bored or tired (like tonight).

So back to the point, I think the way you feel on coke has to do with the state your in when you do it most of the time. I know I drink before I do it, so I don't enjoy it "as much" when I'm sober either.

alcohol DOES enhance and even prolong the effects of coke, but it has its downsides. apparently the combination creates this other substance (look it up on the net if u're really that curious to the name) which triples your chances of having heart failure. i usually just take sips while i'm doing my lines. my friends swear by vodka&redbull while they're doing coke. it works, just be careful.

When you do lines and drink your liver converts the two into a chemical called Cocaethylene.

ABSTRACT

Cocaethylene is a psychoactive ethyl homologue of Cocaine, and is formed exclusively during the coadministration of Cocaine and alcohol. Not a natural alkaloid of the Coca leaf, Cocaethylene can be identified in the urine, blood, hair, and neurological and liver tissue samples of individuals who have consumed both Cocaine and alcohol. With a pharmacologic profile similar to Cocaine, it can block the dopamine transporter on dopaminergic presynaptic nerve terminals in the brain. It increases dopamine synaptic content, provoking enhanced postsynaptic receptor stimulation, resulting in euphoria, reinforcement, and self-administration. Equipotent to Cocaine with regard to dopamine transporter affinity, Cocaethylene appears to be far less potent than Cocaine with regard to serotonin transporter binding. Lacking the serotonergic-related inhibitory mechanism, Cocaethylene appears to be more euphorigenic and rewarding than Cocaine. Synthesized and administered Cocaethylene has a behavioral stimulation profile similar to Cocaine. Cocaethylene has been shown to be less potent and equipotent to Cocaine, and alcohol plus Cocaine produces more stimulatory locomotor behavior in mice than either drug alone. Equipotent to Cocaine with regard to primate reinforcement and self-administration, Cocaethylene can substitute for Cocaine in drug discrimination studies, and can produce stimulation of operant conditioning in rats. With regard to lethality, Cocaethylene has been shown to be more potent than Cocaine in mice and rats. The combination of Cocaine and alcohol appears to exert more cardiovascular toxicity than either drug alone in humans. Alcohol appears to potentiate Cocaine hepatotoxicity in both humans and mice.

___________________________________________

Basically, it is more euphoric, lasts longer, but exerts a bigger load on your cardiovascular system, and is more toxic to the heart. Also, alcohol increases the toxicity of Cocaine in the liver. Meaning increased risk of myocardial infarction, arhythmias, dangerous blood pressure spikes (hypertensive crisis) and liver damage... although it DOES increase the euphoric effects...

My favorite way to mix coke is with some gbl ! the high that it gives you just surpasses anything i have ever experienced...Much better than mixing it with alcohol ! Whats good about it also is that when you are coming down from coke you just take a little bit of gbl and you dont feel the comedown at all and you go to sleep nicely...

Hmmmmmm, i'd prolly just stop taking it! Did you know that mixing coke and alcohol results is a compound being made in the body called 'cocaethylene' which is far more toxic than taking coke alone? Do a google on it, theres plenty of information on the subject.

Iggypoop is absolutely correct, cocaine and alcohol form cocaethylene which accounts for the different feeling.

It's not lethal but it's more damaging to your liver and kidneys than either substance alone, and it says in your body longer. Mixing coke and alcohol is not something you should do too regularly.

Here in Peru, most people say it's better to take coke and alcohol since it makes things "smoother" and less damaging... go figure! hehehe

That's the substance it makes when mixed together in your liver. As mentioned above this substance is worse on your liver/kidneys than either substance alone and we all know how nice alcohol can be to the liver right?

If you are already damaging your liver with coke and/or booze you might as well combine the too for an ultra damaging (but very pleasent) experience.

Hmm dumb thinking, at least for those of us who care about harm reduction.

Best advice, don't drink & do cola. Better to find some benzos (klonopin etc), they don't harm your liver.

Cocaethylene.

Cocaine and alcohol in moderate doses go great together, as alcohol tempers the edgyness and agitation. But yeah, the body load is heavier and it's not good for you
