Drug info - What is a safe dose of acetaminophen

SWIM is going to take Vicodins sometime soon, he has 5-500 hydro-aceta type, and wants to get as much out of it as he can without hurting his body too much (or dying). SWIM has 5 tablets, and has tried a dose of 2 about three months ago (so no tolerance but at least one experience), how many should he take to be safe? SWIM weighs 155 lbs.

Please try a CWE (cold water extraction) it is extremely easy and fast and gets rid of all the nasty acetaminophen. Acetaminophen can do really nasty things to SWIY's liver. Please look up "CWE" or "cold water extraction" in the search engine!

acetaminophen has been described to have an accumulative danger to ones liver, a large dose as a once off maybe survivable, but repeated intake can really knock out the liver.

Swim doesn't know if its related by has found he sweats far more on a crudely done cold water extraction than on one that produces a finer product.

Clarity of the extract is a good mark of success

The limits are widely posted around here and are as follows:

Maximum acetaminophen consumption daily: 4 grams
Maximum single dose: 1 gram every 6 hours not to exceed 4 grams in 24 hrs

Any more as a single dose and cumulative dose and you run the risk of elevating liver transaminases and possibly damaging your liver. Your liver is certainly not something you want to damage...it is unlikely you will receive a transplant if you do receive damage and it is actually quite easy to damage your liver...one single OD can literally permanently take out your liver.

Try doing a CWE,you'll loose some but at least it gets rid of the acetaminophen.If not, then 3 tablets at once should be ok.But as others have said, taking too much for too long will most likely ruin your liver.

5 Tablets is 2.5 grams. That's more then SWIM would want to take, but it's still a "safe" dose if not mixed with things like alcohol.

CWE's always recommended, but 2.5 grams one time will not cause hepatic injury.

Please be more careful in future when giving harm-reduction advice. Your paracetamol/APAP doses are too high.

Yah this is not smart. I've treated someone for acute tylenol poisoning for eating a one time dose of 2 grams before. So that's incorrect...no more than 1000 mg at a time.

That's a maxium daily dosage. That's NOT the amount which can safely be consumed in ONE dose.

Advising a person, whom one knows nothing about, that they could "safely" take a single 2.5gram dose is irresponsible...no one here knows what, if any, other medications or substances this swimmer may be on that are also metabolized through the liver(which would significantly reduced its ability to efficiently clear a large one-time Acetaminophen dose).

To the OP, this swimmer concurs with DKMD about dosage and RC regarding CWE.
