Question Visual effects of psychedelics in the legally (not totally) blind?

Do any SWIM's have experiences with legal (not total) blindness and psychedelics? Specifically, how do the visual effects compare with corrected ("normal") vision versus the naturally impaired?

A quick background - my lab rats are very legally blind, with last remembered test 20/250 or something like that (here's some trivia - this means that if labrat can read something from a distance of 20ft, another with "perfect" [aka 20/20] vision could read the same thing from 250ft). Labrat has worn contacts since the age of 12, and has perfect vision while wearing them. Uncorrected, the world is a total blur. Colors are diminished greatly, and everything looks like it is being seen through a dense fog. Labrat can make out basic shapes, and see areas of light and bright color, but that is about it.

Now, labrat has used psychedelic drugs hundreds of times... every last trip was experienced with corrected vision.

What would the visual experience be if psychedelics were taken with labrat's natural legal blindness? Would the patterning be blurry? Or would the effects play with the haze that seems to be obscuring labrat's world, or what? Since labrat does know what it is like to see the world clearly (as opposed to somebody who was born totally blind), they wonder what it would be like to trip with this sense mostly removed.

Anyways, any other lab animals have any input/experience?

Labrat may just have to give this a try next time.

same thing, just fuzzier? lol. actually I've not heard one way or the other. I have a legally blind pet who likes to trip but has only done so with corrected vision. I'd like to know what my pet would experience without corrected vision, so please report back.

Re: Visual effects of psychedelics in the legally (not totally) blind?

So labrat gave it a try. What I was kind of afraid of happening happened (which honestly probably had something to do with it, but still doesn't change the fact). Anyway, bear with me...

I fed labrat 4g of dried cubensis mushrooms, made into tea. Effects were felt in about 10 minutes and labrat's contact lenses were removed approximately 30 min after consumption, when visuals began to get strong.

Labrat found that you still get that vision of a patterning energy over everything, and it is crystal clear regardless of everything else being a fuzz. Colors were very bright. Fuzzy view of objects danced around. Weirdly, things would start to come in clear focus every once in awhile. But it was brief, and they looked really fake or artificial. Probably labrat's mind drawing into the memory and pulling out clear images of stuff. Or something. The whole effect was very different from what was originally imagined, and rather overwhelming.

Anyways, the blurry surroundings began to melt and shift. Like with normal vision, things will do that, but it's okay. But in this case, the blur kind of became a fog that was very uncomfortable and made labrat feel claustrophobic and like a cornered animal. Labrat ended up having to put contacts back in after dealing with this for about 30min, and was fine after that.

Basically, it gave labrat the feeling of being some kind of animal with shitty vision... vulnerability sucks.

So that's what it was like (in labrat's experience, which by the way, was not worth repeating) to trip legally blind!

Interesting question and thanks for sharing the rat's experience.
