salvia extraction question
SWIM is doing a salvia extraction
ok well he took 100g of salvia and ground it up to flower consistancy. he then mixed it with 151 proof everclear shook it for 5 min, letting is setting and poured it off. he didnt this 3 times followed by putting the remander of the sludge in coffee filters and squeezing the extra juice out. he then put this is a bread baking glass dish and let sit over night in a dark cool area. (this liquid evercear i put in the dish was Black! and left a light green residue when splashed onto the side). in the morning when he awoke he put the everclear liquid in the baking dish into a baking pan slowly as to not disturb the tannin and much below. the bread baking dish had like 1/4 inch of much and tannin gross. that was washed and thrown out. he was looking at the everclear that was now in the baking dish and it is still completely dark with the same green tint. and looks like globs of oil are floating on it. he told me that he planned to leave it like this for a few more hours and put it into a new container again and then put this container in front of a fan to help dry it quicker. he then planned on then evaporating it to about 1 cup of liquid and put in 10g of broken good salvia to enhance it. does anyone have any idea or recommendations? also why is the everclear soooo dark. he said he saw some pictures from an extraction and most peoples is light green by now? did mess up something? |

Re: salvia extraction question
SWIP,
The problem is all the water in the everclear (25%). The water pulls across all the plant gunk and sediment that's not wanted. Without anhydrous slovents, you won't be able to filter it all out. Acetone comes highly recommended by Lizard. He gets it at the hardware store and uses it chilled. (There's an extraction tech. under "chemistry of other drugs" by Alfa). You can also look into drying your everclear. |

Re: salvia extraction question
mmm at this point SWIM said that he has left it to evaporate for awhile now and that its down to about 1 cup of fluid. so SWIM said he has decided to put his leaf into that 1 cup to finish drying/soaking up the liquid. and SWIM said he will just use it as a Cruid CRUID extract as long as people here think it would be viable. SWIM also said that he will scape the bottom of the baking pan when it drys fully and naptha was it to see if anything was left.
SWIM figures even with the water in the everclear if he can get it to dry he should still have some higher than natural enhanced leaf. do you think i should recommend swim to just put the leaf to be standardized in with the CRUDE extract and call it done? Swim also said he will be use a water apparatus and a torch to ignite the potent aroma so SWIM was thinking all the impuritys left would be filtered anyways. |

Re: salvia extraction question
The best thing to do would be to let it dry COMPLETELY, get down to the hardware store tomorrow and pick up some acetone.
Scrape up the gunk, put it in bottom of a shot glass/rocks glass (depending on amt), fill up with acetone to top of glass. Cover with something that isn't plastic and allow to sit for ~4hrs. Siphon off as much as possible with a glass eyedropper and evaporate it. When getting down to the gunk in bottom, stop and re-fill with acetone. Repeat. Once one's gotten out as much as possible w/o disturbing the sediment, toss sediment. The dried product should be reasonably pure. Scrape up, re-dissolve in SMALL amt. acetone, and add to leaf. Try to get it spread as evenly as possible. |
