any tips on getting RX for Adderall??

a little back history:

Swim began taking Adderall about 3 years ago. not diagnosed with ADD, just taking it recreationally, and becoming increasingly dependent on it. for about 2 years, Swim procured the Adderall from friends/relatives with an RX. then, about 6 months ago, Swim went to a health clinic and said that she had been treated for ADD in the past & had been taking Adderall for it. the Dr. did not ask for medical records or anything--Swim very easily got the RX. over the next few months, Swim went to 3 different doctors who all gave RX's for Adderall.

but now, Swim is out of resources. every health clinic she can find either says they do not treat ADD or that they need medical records showing Swim was indeed diagnosed with ADD in the past (which she was NOT). also, Swim no longer has access to friends/relatives' RX's.

what to do? does anyone have any tips for Swim about types of places to go/things to say or do to insure a dr. would give an RX for Adderall?

SWIM THANKS YOU!

Re: any tips on getting RX for Adderall??

Hi, I just went through that..trying to get adderall prescribed to me...I eventually just switched my primary doctors and went to the new one and told him my work switched insurance carriers so i had to change docs.when he asked me what meds i was on, I told him I had been on adderall for a year for adhd..it had just so happened that my blood pressure was high when I saw him and he wanted to put me on blood pressure medication, he said that the adderall might be causing that and asked if i could stop for a bit. I quickly told him that I had actually ran out of adderall a couple weeks before so that wasn't causing it. he then told me he wanted to check my Bpressure in a couple weeks. when I went back I ended up seeing one of his assistant docs.pressure was fine, asked her about the adderall, and then she pulled out her pad out and wrote me the scripp i had been trying to get for awhile. just research ahead of time how much you are going to say your taking, kind of pill,xr etc. and go with it.. I had tried a psych doc before and I messed up and told him I did drugs in the past and then he wanted to put me on something lame.....GL to you

But, that's not answering SWIY's questions, SWIM just did not understand that part of back story....

Here's how SWIM got to be a regular with PCP that would write Adderall with no records of diagnosis.... SWIM asked around for a doc with a rep for overwriting scripts, made an appt "to get established". During that initial visit. SWIM informed MD that several years prior while living in another town several hours away, she was having trouble with her college courses and a friend had suggested SWIM might have ADHD, SWIM took online test and went to MD with results. The MD in other town confirmed ADHD and put SWIM on Adderall which, she reported to new MD, "helped so much, like all the outside noise that's always been in my head was gone, and I could concentrate". SWIM then told MD that a couple years later the MD retired, but her college courses were complete and she did not feel she needed the Adderall as much. SWIM then informed MD that she had recently taken on a new job that is very high stress and requires her to multi-task all day. SWIM told MD that she was struggling and based on previous experience, now thinks she needs to go back on the Adderall. As far as the old records, a few years had passed and the DR from the other town had "retired".

If SWIY doesn't want to invent such a story, it may not even be necessary. Here's some tips re ADHD: If SWIY goes online, there are many self tests to screen SWIY for it. It's pretty obvious how SWIY should answer the questions to "pass" the test. ADHD is not tested in the blood or with any other kind of objective testing. A doctor cannot tell SWIY that SWIY is lying when screening. SWIY should do some research, learn the buzzwords and alternatives to meds that ADHD patients try (controlling the environment, etc). It's actually fairly easy to scam a 'real diagnosis' and get established with a doctor or several if SWIY doesn't use insurance. From SWIM's experience however, the speedy effects from abusing Adderall almost completely disappeared once SWIM had a regular supply for a few months. This was very disappointing to SWIM, as she used to love how it made her feel. Like with any other drug, tolerance is a bitch, and she'll win every time.

Sorry so long, hope that helped somewhat. GL
yes, good question--- well, the first doctor worked at a clinic that is no longer open, ugh! the second doctor was fine, but said she could only write 1 RX, next time Swim would have to go to a mental health dr. the next 2 doctors gave the RX's, but hesitantly, after asking lots of questions and being very suspicious, making Swim very weary of returning to them.

thanx for the tips--- hopefully Swim will have good luck with them!!
