Re: Is it always this hard to sleep on opiates?

First time users often have trouble falling asleep with opiates. often times the scratching and the high prevents them from sleeping

Scratching can be alleviated by using an antihistamine such as cetirizine or promethazine, or diphedhyramine ('Nytol') which will also help you get to sleep if you take it on the tail end of an opiate high.

Yes Swim every time swim uses heroin later in the day like anytime after 6pm swim is done he will be up all night. He will feel tired and just roll around but since swim is high he usually doesn't mind.

Re: Is it always this hard to sleep on opiates?

my friend Manuel Macdonalds Smith said he couldn't sleep when he took opiates the first time, he said it was like a feeling of guilty/anxiety bothered him when going to a deeper sleep level and he couldn't sleep or stay awake. I'll tell him his symptom is not exclusive.

Re: Is it always this hard to sleep on opiates?

The cat has chronic pain and gets HC 10-325 X 4 per day and Percs 5 as needed (max 3 per day). He also loves PST and or slurry. He just loves the tingled buzzing sleep and those crazy dreams he gets from these drugs. He also loves the fact that often times he can go days on end with just 4 hrs of this type sleep and be tatally rested. Ocassionally he crashes big time and will then sleep (out cold) 20+ hours and repeat the entire cycle several days later.
He's carefull not to get too carried away with this behavior as after too long a time of a lack of sleep his mind to be a scary place.

Do others enjoy this?

Re: Is it always this hard to sleep on opiates?

Swim is sort of stuck in a cycle right now where if he has opiates in his system then he can just stay up and not be tired untill 6-7am...hell some times, ecspecialy when swim has good dope or hydromorphone...he wont even go to bed..and just stay up without sleep untill the drugs are gone...by this time swim is so tired he must sleep to fight off the haullucinations haha..

Re: Is it always this hard to sleep on opiates?

Swim has chronic pain and is prescribed Morphine I.R. After taking it there is definitely a propensity to wakefullness ...even if it is taken late in the evening. Also Swim has noticed when trying to get to sleep that he suddenly shudders and wakes up ...difficult to describe ... but Swim once heard this particular phenomenon of sort of convulsing at the cusp of sleep called: " Falling Off The Edge Of The Kerb".

Who knows?

Re: Is it always this hard to sleep on opiates?

Swim has had most of his nod experienes on his bupe,
although the second time he tried H was the best experience in his life, it was potentiated by 4 mg of alprazolam and by the time sw got his shot (around 5 am) he was already delerious.. Needless to say nodding is one of swims favorite effects especially when his eyes roll back in his head

Swim is sorry for veering off topic, Swim's first experience with morphine actually felt like a stimulant type buzz instead of the comfort/tired feeling all swiyers would expect from such.. swim isnt sure why it is like this but personally believes it may have a connection with the amount of neurotransmitters (dopamine, norepinephrine, epinephrine) that morphine causes release of.

Smile Re: Is it always this hard to sleep on opiates?

For many years it was debated among scientists as to whether opiates were a central nervous system deppresant or a central nervous system stimulant. Scientists have finally concluded that opiates are in fact a central nervous system deppressant; however, some particular opiates such as morphine in particular seem to induce insomnia in a large number of users. The "nod" should not be confused with sleep. "Nodding" is not sleeping. Many chronic pain patients report that such medications like hydromorphone and other synthetic or semi-syntheic opioid compounds might make it easier for one to get the sleep they desire.

Re: Is it always this hard to sleep on opiates?

If SWIY is going to be doing larger doses of opiates even past 6:00 PM, SWIY should probably secure some benzos or nyquil. Benzos work the best although if even if SWIY falls asleep you get that half sleep but feel alright for the first couple hours once awake.

Re: Is it always this hard to sleep on opiates?

SWIM too finds it hard to sleep on any kind of opiates.

He's advise them not as being a night time thing, because unless they can actually put you under, you'll spend the whole time laying around, and basically wasting your high. I think important. Unless you feel tired, try and stay upright, and actually enjoy the sensation.

SWIM would definitely NOT advise trying to sleep, because he has discovered that he gets some pretty hellish, terrifying dreams or CEV's (hard to tell), while he never experiences bad time if he is just prostrate in front of the tv.

The best way SWIM can describe nodding is the feeling of dreaming while being awake. SWIM's had long conversations through MSN or whatever whilst nodding, and although he remembered the glowing rectangle of his blackberry screen in the half-light of his living room, he never remembers what he said. His fingers tap away, and although he's certain of what he's doing at the time (no gibberish, good coherent sentences). His flatmates say its like he's possessed. Eyes glazed and unfocused, still doing simple tasks.
