Drug use teacher 'can continue'

A schoolteacher found guilty of professional misconduct after admitting using crack cocaine has been told he can carry on teaching.

William Horseman, formerly a maths master at The Ridings High School in Winterbourne, Bristol, admitted falling asleep during classes.
At a hearing in Birmingham on Thursday, the General Teaching Council accepted that Mr Horseman was now off drugs.
The headteacher at his new school will submit regular monitoring reports.
Mr Horseman worked at the Ridings for 25 years until being dismissed in 2007.
Zoo trip
He told the hearing his use of crack cocaine stopped in March 2006, before he was caught asleep at work and during a trip to a zoo.
He admitted using the drug between 2005 and 2006, and to failing to attend summer school on one day in 2007.
He also admitted missing two registration sessions in September 2007, dismissing some classes early and leaving the school before the end of the day.
Aaron King, chairman of the GTC disciplinary committee, told Mr Horseman: "Use of crack cocaine, a class A drug, by any member of the teaching profession is completely unacceptable."
He said he accepted Mr Horseman had been candid about his past failings and accepted his reassurance they would not happen again. Mr Horesman is now teaching at Merchants' Academy in Bristol.
