Effects - Long-Term Implications of Recreational Use

I've searched Google / PubMed long and hard for information on this, but I'm hoping some of the experts out there can help.

I've been using codeine recreationally (1-2 times weekly) for about 3 years. Previously my doses were around 150mg, recently I've upped it to about 250mg.

I'm anxious to avoid dependency, but I also find that the codeine bliss, short as it is, helps me get through tough times (ie. savage whore of an ex-girlfriend cheating on me with a close friend). I also find a moderate dose helps to inspire me as I'm writing a book.

Anyway, enough justification... I'm just hoping you guys can share your knowledge on the possible long-term implications of 250mg twice weekly. Am I frying my liver? Is my tolerance slowly creeping upwards?

Well I'm sorry, I completely forgot to mention... it's my pet sloth that likes to use recreational codeine. I'd never touch the stuff personally.
